Old Town Novato and Jesse Hildreth photos of little bands
Comments (9)That is one gorgeous rose! I really have a weakness for big purple-red blooms. My Jesse Hildreth was bought in Nov. 2015 (at a total cost of $60.00, I don't think I'll ever forget that) as a little band and is now about 18 inches tall. As Jeri said it first spread out and now is finally going up, but for me it is a slow grower. However, it has had one bloom in addition to the buds I've pinched off and it looks very healthy, with shiny leaves....See More"Old Town Novato"
Comments (8)Oooo, did you say "if you can grow any HP"? That could be me. With some exceptions, I have much better luck with HP disease resistance than Bourbon disease resistance. MIP is a foliage disaster here! I'd vote her Most Likely to Blackspot. OTN has a beautiful bloom, and HMF advertises it as disease resistant. Is its fragrance as delicious as its flower? When I run out of room in my garden, I'll ambush my friends and commandeer their real estate. Carol...See More"Old Town Novato" . . . Yes, AGAIN.
Comments (7)Ingrid -- It's not the lighting . . . It's the terribly hot weather we had, while these first blooms were developing. So, yes. It's normally considerably darker, and with more of a purple tinge, and unless our temp rises up near 100 again soon, those blooms will follow. Here's one opening today:...See More"Old Town Novato"
Comments (10)Mustb -- We have pruned it lightly. I believe the plant Cass has in NoCal is VERY large, but is pruned to keep it in bounds. Down here, with less rain and alkaline conditions, roses take a long time to get big, and we tend to prune only to the extent of removing dead/damaged/unhealthy growth. And yes, Ingrid, that's International Herald Tribune, a rose we really love, and grow in several places....See More- 6 years ago
