Thanks Mara. I'll plant them in a full sun area. I have some very rich soil around my bananas that gets quite a bit of sun and it's an area where I water more than other parts of the yard .I think it's Monarda fistulosa but the packet was just labeled wild bergamot.

It will spread out and cover a good area, so give it room to range. It spreads by runners. It is a more central spreader . One that widens the climb. It might not win diking out with a banana but it should hold its own.

I may have to find another spot for it then? The sunny parts of my flower beds are a bit crowded, I just wish it did well in part sun. I'll have to rethink where I'll plant it.

It does well in part sun , they say, But it needs a block of sun for part of the time. I didn't have sun . it was all day dappled shade.

Ok great. The area that I want to plant them in gets a few hours of sun and then shade mid to late afternoon. I also have a full sun area that stays moist/wet due to water coming from the a.c.

It likes the edge of the woods where the sun breaks at times into shade...... like the majority of Texas plants.

Ok I'll plant them in the previous area. The soil isn't as rich and it's much drier but I can amend the area.

blackwillow, your sun/shade sounds exactly like the area I grew them. They did well for me, but didn't grow or spread fast.

I would not call it a xeriscape plant. It is mostly an east Texas plant,...but it also grows in New Mexico but they have cool nights that is gentle on plants. Those might be in the mountains where it is wetter.

@ Hey Barn. I'm hoping I have some success because they look like pretty plants. How long did you have your plants?

@wantonamara I'll be diligent about keeping it watered, especially when it's very dry.

I think it will deal with some drought but I would not call them xeric.

I'll add some compost to the area but I'll wait until Fall to plant them if they survive.
