Side dishes for hamburger/hot dog street party
Comments (34)Thanks, Islay! I think I will try the Cake Provençal, but I have to buy some canned tuna, as I do not keep that on hand. Since you use a silicon pan, I think Pyrex would be fine. I was considering an 8x8" pan because I thought it might make more cubes, but I will make that determination when I see how much batter I end up with. I found another recipe for it here, but it uses ham, and I would rather use tuna. I think ham would make it crumbly. Here is another similar recipe that looks interesting. I made the Roquefort mini-popovers yesterday, and I determined that they will not be that good cold. They were fine when hot or warm but are a bit too eggy to eat cold - the texture would be off. I also learned that you absolutely must use a non-stick mini-muffin pan. I have an old one that I used, and I had bought a new one (which is non-stick) because the recipe calls for two pans of 12. I almost bought two new pans, which is what I should have done, as I will now be recycling my old pan, since the popovers got completely stuck in the old pan, even though it was properly oiled. I had to scoop the popovers out with a spoon from the old pan, but they fell right out of the new pan. I took pictures, but they are not pretty. It is very easy to eat six of these popovers, and we had twelve each last night, more or less as a main course. They are a bit like cheesy eggy waffles - more like a breakfast food, but still good as an appetizer. I would make them for a party at home but not to take out. I might also still make hush puppies, as they are like cornbread and will be okay cold....See MoreGTKY-it's been a while!
Comments (40)1. If you were given a $100 bill to spend on yourself-what would you do with it? Probably buy Lego set for my grandson 2. What is your favorite brand of dish soap? Palmolive 3. What is your favorite brand of laundry detergent? BioKleen Free and Clear 4. Favorite candle scent? Don't use anything scented and don't burn candles since a friend's house burned down because of one. Also don't think they are safe in earthquake country. 5. Have you ever met a celebrity? If so, who? I'm the worst celebrity conscious person ever - I just don't know who anyone is. I can't recall meeting anyone, but on my frequent trips to Santa Barbara and Montecito, I've had some crossed paths over the years. I wouldn't have known, but for the awareness of my friends there: Ate sushi next to Rob Lowe (many years ago, my first sushi experience). I didn't realize who he was (West Wing years) but when my friend quietly made me aware, I realized he was just as beautiful as on TV. Had breakfast next to Harrison Ford (who I did recognize). Stood in line at a store behind Kenny Loggins (had no idea, but my friend again filled me in). Sat on a plane next to a young man the flight attendants were going gaga over, getting autographs, etc. I had no idea who he was, but his name was Shaun or Sean and was in a famous boy band (this was probably 20 years ago). My son figured it out, now I can't recall. (I just looked it up...Boyz to Men). Maybe not a big celebrity, but I did meet Roy Yamaguchi once at Pebble Beach and was treated to dinner at his restaurant there. 6. Can you touch your nose with your tongue? Close but no cigar. 7. Have you ever ridden a)horse b)motorcycle c)helicopter? Yes, yes, no. 8. What is your favorite 'odd' food combination? Peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches. 9. What is the last movie you watched? The Book Club - I am not a fan of movies at all, so seldom see them. 10. If you could go on Antiques Roadshow, what would you bring? Nothing I can think of. 11. Do you like Pina Coladas? No, I hate coconut. 12. Getting caught in the rain? No, no, no. 13. Or the smell of the ocean? Yes, yes, yes. 14. Or the taste of champagne? Yum, yum, yum! (and now you have that song as an earworm!) And I guess I don't know the song, lol....See More“over 65 Medicare Survivor”
Comments (25)Good Lord! Some people are easily offended. I am 72 but I still carry 50 lb sacks of feed every day and bales of hay and take care of all my horses and other animals, and last, buy not least, take care of my chronically ill husband. We have been doing a lot of driving, looking for a place to buy, and my challenge is getting out of the truck after driving 600 miles, and being able to walk. It takes me about 20 paces, but then I can straighten up. I also struggle with technology. I never did learn how to program a VCR and I couldn't hook up the DVD player to the tv... so my "disabilities" with those things go back decades. There are plenty of things I probably wouldn't score well in a challenge, but as you age, you learn to "roll with the punches". You keep a good attitude...and like Watchme, a goal, and keep moving forward, even if it is a little slower than what you would like....See MoreA Dorothy Draper update - What would you do? Progress
Comments (28)It's coming along slowly. Want to add some pillows but I have only scraps of Brazilliance left so I'll piece them together for a few pillows. Found this vintage kettle cloth drapery piece in my stash that might work on a pillow or... I have several yards of this kettle cloth texture fabric with a jungle motif. Which one to use? Lamp on the right is my mother's much prized marble lamp with a new shade on a horse head table I got a Habitat. Lamp on the left is a glass thrift store find with a gold leaf shade. It's on the first piece of furniture my parents bought so please don't tell me it doesn't go with the look. I"m using it. My reupholstered Brazilliance estate chair with a serigraph I found at an apartment's dumpster in the area. Gotta hang it but it's a two person job so have to wait. Wanted to pull some black and white to that side of the room so I put my thrift store silk shantung shade on a thrift store lamp. The shade has a label in it from a now defunct high end Miami lamp store, so I'm going Carlton Varney on this too with the Palm Beach influence. I have a small chest I need to pull out of the garage to put beside the chair. Loving my wool and sisal area rug, my only real purchase for this room. And finally used a needlepoint rug I got in a thrift store as a wall hanging behind the dresser and mirror a neighbor gave me when she downsized her Chicago home. Mirror's not perfect but it's what I have till I find my black and gold one. Company coming for Thanksgiving, hope I'm ready. And of course window treatments but that probably won't make the cut for Thanksgiving as my sewing machine is acting up. I'll be digging into the rest of the thrift store art and accessories in the garage to finish it up. I've decided it's use it or recycle it (again)! Let me know which fabric you think looks best on the bed. Thanks,...See Morenancyofnc
