Comments (39)Thank you all, again. I ended up making 6" fruit skewers as suggested above, since the fruit is so wonderful now. Yum! I even added some mint leaves in there because it looks gorgeous. I also brought a little dip of sourcream, coconut and apricot preserves in an iced bowl. Truth is I made those because that was what I wanted to eat, and good thing, because surprisingly they did not serve fruit! I also made a basket of snicker doodles, which were a great hit. My host told me he had one for breakfast today. I am making Bumblebeez salad for dinner tonight, and Id love 4kids tart recipe. And we have an event midweek where i am going to try to making the waffle cones --- how do you make sure they do not get soggy? PS even a humble snickerdoodle can dress up for party...See MoreSide dishes for hamburger/hot dog street party
Comments (34)Thanks, Islay! I think I will try the Cake Provençal, but I have to buy some canned tuna, as I do not keep that on hand. Since you use a silicon pan, I think Pyrex would be fine. I was considering an 8x8" pan because I thought it might make more cubes, but I will make that determination when I see how much batter I end up with. I found another recipe for it here, but it uses ham, and I would rather use tuna. I think ham would make it crumbly. Here is another similar recipe that looks interesting. I made the Roquefort mini-popovers yesterday, and I determined that they will not be that good cold. They were fine when hot or warm but are a bit too eggy to eat cold - the texture would be off. I also learned that you absolutely must use a non-stick mini-muffin pan. I have an old one that I used, and I had bought a new one (which is non-stick) because the recipe calls for two pans of 12. I almost bought two new pans, which is what I should have done, as I will now be recycling my old pan, since the popovers got completely stuck in the old pan, even though it was properly oiled. I had to scoop the popovers out with a spoon from the old pan, but they fell right out of the new pan. I took pictures, but they are not pretty. It is very easy to eat six of these popovers, and we had twelve each last night, more or less as a main course. They are a bit like cheesy eggy waffles - more like a breakfast food, but still good as an appetizer. I would make them for a party at home but not to take out. I might also still make hush puppies, as they are like cornbread and will be okay cold....See MoreWhat would you bring to eat?
Comments (19)Yum thank you all!! I am thinking from my garden cucumbers and peppers but not cherry tomatoes (splat). Maybe some broccoli and green beans. Nuts and cheese. Granola bars are a good idea. Perhaps some bread. Lars - I am very very sure I will eat some fair food! Lol! I am just thinking my digestion and budget would prefer not to eat only fair food. I believe the Common kitchen is for the volunteers not the vendors. Lacy or whoever was wondering about the coffee ban. Years ago when the fair began coffee hit all of the major buttons - extremely exploitative labor practices, environmentally unsound growing, huge carbon footprint and addictive.... That said very few people I knew back then carried on that level of purity at home. I think there are more choices of coffee sources now and maybe the purity of the old guard has lessened....See MoreGTKY-it's been a while!
Comments (40)1. If you were given a $100 bill to spend on yourself-what would you do with it? Probably buy Lego set for my grandson 2. What is your favorite brand of dish soap? Palmolive 3. What is your favorite brand of laundry detergent? BioKleen Free and Clear 4. Favorite candle scent? Don't use anything scented and don't burn candles since a friend's house burned down because of one. Also don't think they are safe in earthquake country. 5. Have you ever met a celebrity? If so, who? I'm the worst celebrity conscious person ever - I just don't know who anyone is. I can't recall meeting anyone, but on my frequent trips to Santa Barbara and Montecito, I've had some crossed paths over the years. I wouldn't have known, but for the awareness of my friends there: Ate sushi next to Rob Lowe (many years ago, my first sushi experience). I didn't realize who he was (West Wing years) but when my friend quietly made me aware, I realized he was just as beautiful as on TV. Had breakfast next to Harrison Ford (who I did recognize). Stood in line at a store behind Kenny Loggins (had no idea, but my friend again filled me in). Sat on a plane next to a young man the flight attendants were going gaga over, getting autographs, etc. I had no idea who he was, but his name was Shaun or Sean and was in a famous boy band (this was probably 20 years ago). My son figured it out, now I can't recall. (I just looked it up...Boyz to Men). Maybe not a big celebrity, but I did meet Roy Yamaguchi once at Pebble Beach and was treated to dinner at his restaurant there. 6. Can you touch your nose with your tongue? Close but no cigar. 7. Have you ever ridden a)horse b)motorcycle c)helicopter? Yes, yes, no. 8. What is your favorite 'odd' food combination? Peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches. 9. What is the last movie you watched? The Book Club - I am not a fan of movies at all, so seldom see them. 10. If you could go on Antiques Roadshow, what would you bring? Nothing I can think of. 11. Do you like Pina Coladas? No, I hate coconut. 12. Getting caught in the rain? No, no, no. 13. Or the smell of the ocean? Yes, yes, yes. 14. Or the taste of champagne? Yum, yum, yum! (and now you have that song as an earworm!) And I guess I don't know the song, lol....See More- 8 years ago
