Maybe the handle on the valve is turning, but the insides are not. Also, follow the line back into the house to see if there might be another valve downstream that got shut off. Another possibility is that the female portion of the quick connect is probably steel, and being in the weather, has developed some rust inside and a check ball is hanging up.

I've used the quick connect connection on my Weber NG grills for years; the last flexible hose connection survived the hash FL environment for 10 years without a problem. As you discovered the connector is designed to shutoff the gas supply if removed from its mate. I rarely remove mine and it is in an enclosed patio where children are not present so I even leave the gas supply on most of the time; however, most will recommend turning off a physical gas valve between uses for the most safe operation just like you would with an LP tank.

The older style LP tanks do use an internal left handed thread. The new tanks all have the "OPD" (overfill protection device) and they also have an external right handed "worm" type thread. You have two options: get an adapter at Walmart for about $10.00 or, check the date on the old LP tank you have, if it is twelve years or older, then when you have it refilled they will require you to have it re-certified. It is probably cheaper for you in the long run just to do a tank exchange for about $16-$18 bucks. That way you are good for another twelve years. As far as your question about running the bbq on NG, it won't work without a conversion. LP gas is at a much greater pressure than NG so, consequently the orifices are smaller for LP than NG. You can check with Aussie and see if they offer an NG conversion kit. If not, you can attempt to drill out the orifices by hand. There are some places on this discussion board as well as others on the net that talk about how to do this. If you do that, you can also get a 12' Natural Gas hose with a quick disconnect on the end that would fit (maybe without an adapter) on your existing stub from your house and the bbq. I just picked one up from Home Depot. It was made by Char Broil in the accessory area. In either case good luck and happy grilling. bsbbq

If I am reading your conversion company's table correctly, you can only expect to get 82 CFH with a 1/2" supply pipe and 40ft of extension. That is clearly too small for your generator. You would either have to: 1. Reduce the distance between the generator and the supply to 20ft or less OR 2. Increase the hard piped supply piping to 3/4" or larger. No other choices....except perhaps to install a large enough propane tank near your existing generator...one large enough to have ample supply in the event of power loss for weeks or more. Might be your best option considering the flow of natural gas by utilities is not 100% guaranteed after a natural disaster like a hurricane. Just ask the residents of New Orleans. ----------- My personal option would be to stick up on enough gasoline to keep the existing generator going for several weeks OR install a propane tank (several thousand gallons). I wouldn't rely on natural gas as a back up at all.
