Kalanchoe beharensis 'Felt plant' - can I cut the stem and repot?

Hi Guys, I've had a Madagascan Kalanchoe plant for a few years. It had huge soft ear-like leaves on the bottom parts of the stem but these have falling away and now the upper stem leaves have also yellowed and fallen. The plant itself seems strong and there are nice new foliage growing from the upper stem. I think it does this in the wild but as it looks a tad strange as a houseplant, is there a way to safely trim the stem and repot? Or will this completely kill it off? Thanks in advance!
