Do you want to see some great pictures?
Comments (5)Great photos - Is that a goldfinch on the thistle? It's been miserable here. We're not used to the cold weather. It's been really cold (for us) so I bought some suet cakes for the birds last week. (I don't usually feed) I went to Walmart a couple of days later and they had bags of peanuts right in front of the door, so I bought some for the bluejays. This week, we're covered with a sheet of ice, so I bought more peanuts, some mixed bird food and a couple of more suet cakes. We've had ladderback woodpeckers, goldfinches, cardinals, doves, blue jays, assorted sparrows and whole bunch of grackels and starlings. I think they can use some extra help this year. It's been really cold everywhere. bkay...See MoreWhat do you want to see in your dentist's office?
Comments (31)I just want to pop back in and say thanks for all the ideas. Love the purse hook idea especially, because there is definitely space for that! The others...like TVs and fish tank...there's just no space. The waiting room is small -- basically a square about 10'x10' with 6-7 chairs and a bookcase. All windows on one side and a reception desk on the other, so no logical spot for a TV or fish tank. I like the idea of mobiles on the ceiling in the treatment area, will look into that! The dr. has a large collection of art/prints all by the same artist that he wants to use, so they will be hung throughout the space. There is one wall next to the open doorway to the treatment rooms -- it is about 3' wide and the wall perpendicular to it (to your right as you enter the treatment room) is about 4' wide. So it's a little corner spot that I need to use in a way to "stop the eye". (The dr said some patients like to peer down the hall to the treatment rooms -- from their vantage point in the waiting room -- and say hello.) I thought about a tall tree decal because that would be big and colorful and take up a lot of space. Other ideas? It can't be a coat rack or coffee machine because we don't want people congregating over there (it is just beyond the reception desk, maybe 9-10' from the waiting room seating. Depending on what's left in the budget, I could also see about getting an artist to actually paint a tree there. (This ties in with the dr's art collection, which are mostly landscapes.) What do you think?...See MoreDo you want to redo every kitchen you see?
Comments (32)For me the worst part of seeing all those new, poorly planned kitchens is when you hear afterwards that they ripped the whole thing out. What a waste! A few years ago a house was for sale for an absurd amount and it was a spec home built by a builder who clearly had no idea about the tastes and the styles of people in this area. The house sat on the market for a long time (by our RE standards), and it was on one of the best streets in town. When it was sold, at a HUGE discount from the original listing price, I found out that the owners ripped out the kitchen and all of the bathrooms--brand spanking new! Admittedly, I too would have done the same. The kitchen was poorly designed and the choices that they made were not pretty (peach marble for the bathrooms). It was awful that all that material went to waste. I love to troll the RE listings and think about how I would change things! I think it's one of the perks of being a GW "student"....we've learned so much from eachother :) I am currently in a crazy rental with black lacquered counters (yes wood that has been black lacquered!), and I always wonder what the original owners were thinking!!!...See MoreGreat tips: some you may know, some you may not...
Comments (7)Re: cornmeal and ants. Have been having a problem with ants on my sunporch. They seem to be living underneath and coming up through cracks in the tile floor. There's no way for me to get to where they live to spray (and I don't like sprays anyway). So I mixed up some cornmeal and borax in a little deli container lid and left it near where they've been arriving. It's been about a week, and the problem has considerably slowed. BUT they seem to be 'burying their dead' in the cornmeal mixture. I've actually seen a live ant dragging and leaving a dead one there! and there were several little carcasses last I looked. But hey--if it works, without dangerous chemicals, or smells that will give me respiratory problems, I'm thrilled....See MoreFunkyart
