YES, I CAN identify Sun Gold plants by the smell. On a sidenote, I'm growing 2 Sun Gold here from Burpee Seed, and not only don't they smell correct but they also are producing orangy RED cherry tomatoes! My buddy is growing 2 from the same pack and he said they don't taste anything like the Sun Golds grown last year (different source.) His 2 are golden orange. I jokingly told him they were incorrect back when we sowed them since I usually spell the name as one word and Burpee's pack is two words; YES, I know it's often spelled both ways depending on who/where. By the way, the seed at precisely 2 up approximately 7 o'clock on the napkin is Sun Gold. Of course it may not be Sungold...

The form looks similar to a Meyer Lemon (although flower buds tend to be pinkish), but really, you wouldn't know for sure until the fruit ripen. Take a photo of mature fruit. Fruit shape, season of maturity, color, size, presence of a 'nipple' or navel, rind thickness, pealability, presence or absence of seeds, even a shot of cut-open fruit will aid identification. Also, to some degree the leaf petiole shape can help. And, lemon leaves have a distinct lemon smell when crushed. Limes leaves have a distinct lime fragrance. Orange, kumquat, mandarin and grapefruit leaves are sort of non-descript citrusy.

I've been trying to get rid of it from my yard for about 15 years now. Fill a garbage can up, and a few weeks later there are what seems like thousands of new sprouts. I even have one that is growing up near the crown of a cabbage palm (out of reach).

Skip, it was a Bradford Pear. Seems every driveway had them 30 years ago. The whole Main Street of our city was lined with them too. We started out with 11 I think. If it would be up to me, they would all be gone by now. My husband (and I guess more importantly my mother in law) love them when they bloom. They don’t mind the stink. Last year two died of blight or something. Sadly no sign of that on the remaining three. The neighborhood on the next road isn’t even that old, but they have the whole road lined with them. That’s how we got the 5 hour or so power outage a couple of weeks ago. Why would they plant something like that under power lines? It’s still a nursing home for my dogs around here, so I am not even thinking about any kind of seed starting. Or looking into any new plants. As long as I can keep what I have in order and watered. On the bright side, I went with one of my dogs to get the newly approved shot for arthritis today. She was the first to get it at our vet. And this clinic is actually one of the first ones to receive it. If this eliminates some of the peanut butter battles to get the many tablets in a day, it will free up some time for gardening :)
