Cuttings of Souv. de Marcelle Balage? Rare Pernetianas?
Comments (2)Hello, No cuttings of S. de. Marcelle Balange, sorry I live on the Oakland/Emeryville border and also love Pernetianas. I reccomend these especially "Autumn" Orange, red, with purple tints in the autumn. "Mari Dot" A pretty little plant, with ample foliage that bears shapely roses. "Gruss an Coberg" One of the most frequent bloomers of this class. Its' apricot-salmon-rose-buff hues are best preserved with a little afternoon shade, otherwise ours bleaches to buff-cream in August. Our "Lundys' Lane" bears yellow-gold-orange blooms through autumn, in Sept. and Oct. the orange hue becomes predominant. It also has very pretty leaves that a striking color of green. Have you seen the Pernetiana beds in the older rose garden at Morcam Park in Oakland? I have a map of the garden but do not know how to post it here. Luxrosa P.S. "Mrs. Sam McGredy" is one of the few roses I've bought that failed to thrive as an "own root" rose....See MorePernetianas - OK for Illlinois Climate?

Comments (28)An own root gallon of Talisman, Climbing (climbing sport of Talisman) arrived here mid-April from Angel Gardens in Alachua, FL. It gets full sun from 10-4, perched in a pot on stone steps that burn bare feet in the heat of the day. Well branched & ready to flush again for the fifth time this year, there's been nothing whimpy about it. The blooms are surprisingly large for such a young plant, confections of apricot, copper, pink & amber gold with strong rich perfume of fruit & spice. They held a week or more in high heat & humidity before shedding their petals. Very impressed with its clean foliage so far in this no spray garden. Both bush & climbing versions are considered nearly thornless, and this one's shown no thorns as yet, another plus for placement & especially appreciated in a climber. Loving this one!...See MoreFragrance of Antique Roses vs Modern Roses

I think she is one of my all time favorites . . . " BUT SHE IS AN OGR! ARS's official definition of "Old Garden Roses" is that ANY rose OF A CLASS OF ROSES that existed prior to 1867 is considered to be an "Old Garden Rose." SO, if I were to introduce a Tea Rose, say next month ... it would be an "Old Garden Rose." And people HAVE created modern-born "Old Roses". At the same time, Hybrid Musks and Polyanthas (as examples) are NOT "Old Garden Roses" because they did not exist as a class prior to 1867. Why 1867? Because that was the date of the introduction of the first Hybrid Tea Rose -- The first "Modern Rose"....See MoreUser
