Philodendron help
Comments (13)aww, thank you Toni! I've been on/off with houseplants since about 2000, but only recently have been reading a lot about them. The first houseplant I bought was a banana, and the second, I think was probably a majesty palm... needless to say, they didn't last long! I really like the forums here--I'm learning a lot! Tuck, I think that's a good guess. Repotting it wouldn't hurt, and will give you a chance to inspect the roots. A search on GW for repot, soil medium, and so forth should give you some good info on the best way to go about it. :-)...See MoreVery rare Philodendron
Comments (17)Are we sure we're talking about the same plant. You say it is readily available in Australia, but I was under the impression, it was a "new world plant" and not an "old world plant" indigitally. Is this true? Mine having occured indigitally in Uraguay in the South Americas.I was thinking posibly it started as a "sport" in the wild with the Philodendron Selloum naturally occuring there on the mountains. What do you think? It is not that easy to propagate from "back cuttings either. I will almost certainly try to hybridize it with Philo. "Evansii" or Philo "Imbe varigata" during this April/May season though....See MorePhilo' Super Atom' & Sarah's Way
Comments (4)Sarahs Way is a name made up by Hilders Nursery just down the road in Ingham . Ron Hilder imports lots of great tropical plants , and has a great label with HN [ Hilders Nursery ] and across the top .. Specialising in New Releases . So this cultivar is really only known in Australia . To me it looks like a typical P bipinnatifidum , selloum is a very old name and is now a synonym . Seen great big ones growing around Brisbane , also up on the tablelands here so has some cold tolerance . FULL SUN , is best for all self-headers , and maybe a palm or giant post to cling to if you don't want it sprawling evrywhere . Can get 2-3m round easily when mature , larger in shaded spots....See MorePhilodendron red imperial
Comments (25)An excessive photo load (light) excites molecules in the leaf's photosynthetic machinery. As the molecules return to a normal state, an oxidase is produced. An oxidase you'll recognize is H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide). The oxidase oxidizes (literally bleaches) and destroys the green pigment chlorophyll, which initially causes silver to tan discoloration of leaves that progresses to brown or black as the leakage from destroyed cells dries. Leaf temperature plats a part in how serious the sunburn is, and generally the more affected areas are inside of leaf margins; this, because the thicker center of the leaf cannot cool as quickly as thinner leaf margins.
