Boy can I relate to your frustration. Those wrens ruin so many nests. Sorry about your Blues being chased out. Those wrens are just awful.

Hi Konrad, Kinda sad to lose your RBNH nest... but this is nature at work I guess. Yes, we lost 1 bluebird egg to a HOWR 2 seasons ago. We saw him fly to and into the nest box, and come out with the pierced egg still impaled on his beak! We were waving our arms and shouting at him, as he dropped it on the ground and flew off. It all happened in 30 seconds or less. We discouraged him with a squirt gun for days and the parent blues dived bombed him mercilessly whenever he came near. He finally stopped coming around, and I'm happy to say the other 3 eggs hatched and fledged successfully. No Donna they don't overwinter here but they do at Karen's (Bluebirdbaby) and shes only about an hour drive form here. I'm really kind of glad they don't, I would worry myself sick over them. I only have enough live worms left for another day or 2 so I am hoping they will bring these babies back for the dried worms ( I have been mixing them in with the live ones). I hope you will be able to be there for this fledge, if the younger ones try to leave when the older ones do there could be trouble. 2 days is 1/2 inch growth for those baby feathers! I will say prayers. Here's to the "empty nest blues" ! Only 8 more months.......LOL

Yes....you are right. I worry about them just like they were my babies...LOL. Carolina Wrens are the sweetest, and cutest of birds. The babies are adorable with their big yellow bills wide open whenever we open the door to go on the deck. This is the third year in a row they have built in this pot. It is on a plant stand in a corner between my screened in deck and the outside deck. It is positioned where it is under the eave, and I always plant a dragon wing begonia in the pot so they have a lot of coverage. I guess it is an ideal place for nesting. They always build the nest on the screened in side, so we have a birds eye view of the nest...no pun intended...LOL. They are not afraid of us at all, and after 3 years, we are the best of friends. I had a grackle nest this year too, and they made a nasty mess, unlike my little wrens, who are very clean. I have also had three broods of mockingbirds in my holly bush. Not sure if they were from the same birds, or different, but there were babies in there from late April up until just a week or so ago. I am very protective of my little wrens, and am worried sick about them until they fledge. I will miss them if they ever decide to find a new home.
