Thanks Bestyears! Really!! I haven't read it but of my list, Poisonwood Bible is the most incongruous. However, I will read it although it seems realistically "gritty" from Amazon reviews. I read fast and have a hard time finding books I Iove ..so I'll read a bunch of books I dislike then give up...again and not read new books again until the feeling passes. We don't all have the same tastes in reading, The Kitchen House is beloved but I didn't like it at all ( sorry Sue!) and I really disliked the "letter" aspect of the Guernsey Potato book. It was unsatisfying and annoying. I thought I would like Game of Thrones saga, yet, again, I hated it. Love McCalls #1 Ladies Detective Series.

I've read the Father Tim series and the Ladies of Covington series as well. Good easy reads. Another of the same sort is the Miss Julia series by Ann B. Ross. If you are a quilter the Elm Creek series by Jennifer Chiavirini (sp??) is good too.

I really liked Major Pettigrew's Last Stand- that's my kind of romance these days. Oakly, I like Jeffery Archer too but haven't read any in a long time. I did listen to some of his recent works last year though and liked the one about the newspaper publishers. Hhireno, It has only been a few years since I read for the first time(listened actually) To a Tree Grows In Brooklyn. It was good but also sad though I'm finally glad I know it now as it's classic. I don't do sad books often..it's just too hard. Will put your others on my list. Iread, I have heard about the Piano Tuner, thanks for the reminder. I have read Shadow of the Wind but am the only person on the planet who didn't like it. Will look for the others! Thanks! Yogacat, I have read Suite-Française when it was hot a year or so ago. Well, to answer the question, I listen to books through the Talking Books program that is run by the US Library of Congress National Library Service. I do all of my "reading" this way and have done so for the last 25 years. I'm very used to books on tape. Soon they will be converting to a digital format. Of course, being this kind of reader means that I don't often get to take part in discussions of books on boards like this one. I can't just order up a book from the library and expect to get it in time for the discussion. Sometimes I wait many years for a requested book. Just the other day I got one I'd requested 12 years ago, for instance. On the other hand, I get to keep the books for up to a year. I know of no other library with such a generous policy. Back in my student days, we often had to get library books for 24 hours only--and race back with them to avoid stiff fines.
