Balcony Garden 1st Timer!!
Comments (1)Your questions aren't silly at all. It would help to know where you are and what exactly you mean by "hot". Also, my best advice would be to not over-think things. It's possible to mother hen plants to death (I know, I've done it!). Don't worry about leaves bending over the containers and don't try to study your leaves too closely. Just make sure the pots get good water and fertilizer, and the rest will take care of itself. Also, 5 hours of sun is under the recommended, but I've planted plenty in spots that get about that and they do fine. I think rather than worrying about sun, you should focus on how big your pots are. Vegetables need lots of space. Smaller pots dry out faster, too. How big are they? Also, there is a container forum on this website where you'll find lots of experts on growing in pots. You might want to look through some of the threads there as well....See MoreHot....Hot...Hot!
Comments (6)Very warm here - we had that heat in mid June but with it a lot of rain. Now it's standard plain old hot and we have missed the showers that have happened, less than an inch this month and it all came in little .2" dribbles. I have been watering some anyway - I'll turn on the sprinkler again this morning and I'm going to head out and do a round of deadheading and cutbacks - my plan is to be out by 8 and done by 10. We have family coming down for a bbq and relaxing on the deck while we can and then inside when we need to escape to AC. The garden is rather glorious with phlox and the dahlias are really starting to bloom. My annuals - especially the zinnias and sunflowers are pretty spectacular. :)...See MoreWednesday's Hot Ones
Comments (13)Not sure what's going on with the forum pages but everything is black. I have to click and drag the cursor to see words. And every click brings up a Venture Capital One advertisement. Anyway, I love SOUTH SEAS. It has put on a fairly decent show for me this year. Great, considering I just got it last year. I am wondering if one of my NOID's is SPIDER MAN. I will have to check out the specs on it. Really love FORSYTH INDIAN SUMMER is a real beauty! Well, I just used my whole break because of all the pop-ups, so will check back later. Comments (30)it's always like a heat wave in orlando LOL but that's our normal :-) going to mid 90's today, humidity near 99% (as usual). last summer we set a heat record, 110 days straight at 90 or above then last winter set record cold with both lowest temps ever recorded and longest length of time at record cold. i was sure we were in for a record summer after a hot spring but it's been pretty normal thou a bit dry. norms right now are 94/77 for 2 more months then we trend down :-) the other evening i put a hygrometer from inside the house out on the lanai, it shot up to 99% humidity in a minute LOL brought it back inside after 15 minutes and it went down to 65% LOL that's dry for us :-) it had not even rained that day! ~ liz...See Morehoosier_nan (IN z5b/6a)
