Time to catch up with some recent photos!

My blooms continue to outpace my postings. The blooms are slowing down, so maybe I will have time to catch up! All these cultivars were added in Fall 2015.

HANALEI BAY - blooms have opened better this year.

MARGARET GUILLORY - noticeable increase in bud count this year.

KINGDOM BORDER - doing fine in year two

HOT SEAT - I really like the color, but low bud count again this year.

CHANCE ENCOUNTER - bud count has improved from last year

THE BAND PLAYED ON - another one I like the look of, but low bud count. It has put up a rebloom scape though, so that is good news.

MERRY JO's DELIGHT - received as a bonus plant. Improved bud count this year.

ROCK MY WORLD - the first couple blooms did not open so well, but later blooms look much better.

SMOKY MOUNTAIN AUTUMN - I am very happy to see this one bloom this year. Last year the buds were part of the deer buffet. Thankfully they spared this one this year!

The first picture was taken around 6:45 AM.

The second picture shows the same bloom at 7:45 PM.

Such a pretty bloom!

I always like the color overlays on Smokey Mountain Autumn. As a bud builder, if you leave the scapes in place for awhile more buds may appear. I've had mine blooming clear into September. ....The Band Played on is another of yours I like very much but all of them are nice............Maryl

Nice ones, Lori! I especially like Kingdom Border and Hanalei Bay. Smoky Mountain Autumn is such a beautiful blend of colors. I never knew it was a bud builder. That's really a plus.

Thank you, Mary, Klea, and GG :). The hurricane is moving her way out. We are in the eye right now so it's pretty calm. No power losses or flooding here at our place. There is a chance of some mixed showers so maybe some flurries :D. Mary, our local Wal-Mart will seldom have Hoyas for sale. Usually the variegated carnosas. I saw the lacunosa and just had to have it. They had a nice looking Compacta/Hindu Rope plant there too, but since it's prone to mealies, I skipped on it. Lowe's and Home Depot I love going to as well for finding new plants, but they're not downtown so I don't go to them as often. My shepherdii took a little while to bloom. It did nothing for a while, then this summer, new vines just sprouted like crazy! The vines are bare, but those two peduncles are what it's all about :). GG, shepherdii is a great plant to have! I do not have shepherdell, but I used to have cuttings of Minibelle a few years ago. When they arrived, there were still some blooms hanging off the one peduncle :). Thanks dmkelly. Even though those Walmart bags are only 50ÃÂ¢ a piece, it still is expensive when you add it all up with the peat, pine bark, bat guano and all the remaining ferts. I really thought raised garden beds would do well and they do seem better than just in the ground but the Walmart bags out performed my raised beds by far and I used the same soil mix for both. Sorry I haven't grown anything else in the bags but peppers. Everything else I much easier to grow. Peppers are very particular. These bags require much more water and more fertilizing. They are very well drained and will leach out nutrients quickly. Whenever it rained for a long time I would go out there in the rain and fertilize them with a strong solution. Iron fert like you would use for lawns helps and to combat calcium deficiency I use calcium acetate, quick lime mixed with vinegar and allowed to settle.

Group up the pots up in a shady area that is exposed to any rain that may come your way while gone. They'll shade each others pots and stay cooler with less potential for evaporation. Grouping will also will give the DW a concentrated area to drag the hose to or, better yet, leave the hose out there readily available. Make it easier for her... Even if she only gave them a drink 1 or 2 times while you are gone, that will help 'em along. Of course, water really well before you take off. Happy trails!

This is Oklahoma Sand Burr X Lady Stephanie Victoria Redding. Last Man Standing X Cactus Blossom is a late bloomer. Merry Moppet X (Spacecoast Tiny Perfection X Forestlake Ragamuffin) is a small-flowered daylily. This is not a daylily, but I thought you might like to see Bob's banana in bloom. I believe it is Musa velutina, or the pink banana. That's all for me today. Nancy

Great day for Smoky Mountain. The Band Played On is quite vigorous here for the second year in a row. Bud count here is typical for a Stamile.

Too bad the bud count on TBPO is so low because I love the look of it with that dramatic eye. Smoky Mtn. Autumn always looks beautiful to me.

All are lovely, Lori. I have Hot Seat as well and bud count has always been low. It also has not multiplied well for me. I received an offspring, Fugitive, last year and I am interested to see if it performs better. The Band Played on is really striking. Good pics.

Hanalei Bay is lovely, glad it's opening better this season. Merry Jo Delight is a bit strange, not sure if I like blotchy color on the petals. Smoked Mountain and Hot Seat are winners too.

Rock My World and the later photo of Smokey Mountain Autumn are my picks today. The Band Played on does okay here, but not a tremendous bloomer.
