Would you like some fries with your Catch-up?
Comments (16)Thanks again, you guys. I do feel blessed to live in a great climate and have the ability to grow these treasures. It's worth every effort. Thank you for the feedback, it means so much more when I can share it. Rian, I'm very pleased to inspire one who has inspired me. You know, I have 2 little girls and it's still possible to grow with a furvour. That's the beauty of xeric plants... they can wait. Comments (13)Thanks! Ngraham - with rain, colors have been deeper and more vivid this year, especially after rain. We had nearly 2" of rain yesterday. So I grabbed the camera - you know bloom season is down and out when you grow 800 + daylilies and you only can find 16 to take pictures of (and some of those were duplicates.) At any rate, here were a few blooms this AM after heavy rain. First, the lovely LOLA BRANHAM, one of my favorites and a perfect example of the twisted cascade form. I have never seen the blooms look so "fat" or such a deep color before. Rain can sometimes have the effect of "fattening up" spiders and UFs. Anyone who can grow dormants and wants a LONG bloomer should look at STELLA'S RUFFLED FINGERS by my friend BJ Crichton. It starts EE and here has put up three sets of rebloom scapes. ( unheard of in this climate!) It is still blooming today and has lots of blooms left. This is a cute little one - great for front of border. Jane Trimmer's MICRO DOTS is another which has put up rebloom scapes. Great little one! HEARTBEAT OF HEAVEN is near the end of bloom, but the color today was darker ( and bloom was huge) after the rain. And a couple I just forgot to post last night. Here's one I can never seem to get a good picture of - Jack Carpenter's ESSENCE OF ROYALTY. And one by Reg.14 hybridizer Jesse George which has been a very reliable performer here. This is COACH'S CLASS ACT....See MorePatterns anyone? Tanya's seedlings
Comments (10)I love them all!!!!!!!!!! Wow, those are so cool!! That 1st one looks like it has small lines coming out of the eyezone! I've never seen anything like that before! I love the applique look & often wish it had a defined border around them. In your case it is framed! The 2nd one's form is outstanding! I don't think I've seen a funky eyezoned dl with that form before, they are usually round. I love the ruffles & the picotee edge. I love it when the sepals carry the pattern from the petals & in your 3rd seedling they are huge! Very, very nice. Congrats!...See More2009 Bloom season - playing catch-up!
Comments (10)Here are a few more "catch up" shots from this season. First, an old Jack Carpenter cultivar that has performed well here ( front of border, as its a bit short). ENCORE OF BEAUTY: One hybridized in N. Florida - really different - FIN AND FEATHER: Two "buddies" although LBB looks a bit light here. This is EBONY JEWEL and LAVENDER BLUE BABY: A really cute little one from Pat Cochenhour. It might not look all that exceptional until you realize this perfect pinched crispate form is on a flower less than 4". LITTLE LEMON TWIST: One by Bob Carr that I fell in love with at the 2003 National Convention because of its wonderful substance. Came home, ordered it and still like PRESUMED INNOCENT. An oldie by Dick Webster that I still like: RED SUSPENDERS: Another old Jack Carpenter cultivar that does well here is REGAL CORONATION - huge flat blooms. Hybridized on LI by George Rasmussen is TIGER SWIRL: And this really old Ra Hansen cultivar is reblooming now - has bloomed for two months! TUNE THE HARP: Last one. This doesn't look like a David Kirchhoff, but it is: VIRGINIA LITTLE HENSON: Hope you liked these!...See MoreJulia WV (6b)
