2. I have the largest Kindred square-shaped sinks that I could find to fit the space. My prep sink is about 8" depth, 14" wide and 17" deep (21" wide by 30" deep cabinet)and I love it because the bottom is pretty flat and the drain is in the very back instead of the middle. I probably paid a lot for that feature, but it's worth it, and we cook A LOT, as in, almost every meal, including hot breakfasts with fruit or veggies. When I'm making salad or chopping lots of veggies, it's terrific. Be sure to get a garbage disposal (if you can't compost). The cabinet is 40" wide by 30" deep for my clean up sink. My 7" depth clean up sink has a big bowl (17.5" wide by 20" deep) and a small bowl (11.5" wide by 17" deep - faucet goes in the 3" overlap). The big bowl doesn't quite fit my biggest saute pan (has a really long handle) or biggest cutting board, is by far the closest any sinks have ever come and it hasn't been a problem. My largest roasting pan does fit completely inside it. I do feel guilty about wasting water because it's so huge, so I rarely fill it more than 1/3 way full. If I don't have any pots or pans to clean, I'll just use the small sink. The big bowl has the drain in the back, but the small bowl has it in the middle (with the disposal) and I don't particularly like it there, except it's not too bad with the flat bottom. I wish the sink were 1 or 2" deeper because of the splashing, not to fill it any more. Both sinks have noise-deadening and heat-keeping properties (can't remember what that's called right now). If you don't understand what I mean by "flat bottom" then go put a tall skinny glass (like a champagne flute) in a sink and see how far it tilts over. I just finished cleaning all our wine glasses and could stand them all up in the sink. Hope this helps you make your decision. I know when I started I had no idea there were so many things to think about. I could never handle just one bowl sink.

Lisapico, I didn't get a Rohl sink, but am still looking at a smaller one for the laundry room. The stainless sink we got is by KWC and I think we got it from Ira Wood inc (that website)-- probably about that price. We could have gotten it for $2-300 less, but it wasn't in stock there and was backordered for a fairly long time. I think the Blanco Precision one is 18 gauge instead of 16 and costs less too. Its dimensions are about an inch different -- DH wanted the KWC. I will tell you that it is a bit on the tricky side to get it into a regular depth cabinet with a faucet behind. We had to pull the sink all the way to the front of the cabinet and be very precise in drilling the hole for the faucet -- then pull the faucet to the front of the hole so the handle wouldn't hit the backsplash. If your sink is bumped out, it will be much easier, but you can do it with a standard depth and a little extra care (and cautionary measures with your fabricator). Anyway, the sink is one of half a dozen things in the kitchen that DH takes turns claiming as his favorite. Hope DH is home safely and things are or soon will be ooking up.

I too am very disappointed, having the same issues with my Shaw; chips, hairline type cracks under(crazing) and doesnt drain properly. One section of the sink creates a little pool that keeps the water from draining, although the sink is level. We have a metal grid, but chips were developing even with that. I rarely use it now because it is too difficult to get the water and debris from under it. Bar keepers Friend is helpful. I occasionally make a little paste and let it sit a few minutes before wiping-I find the powder and liquid to be great. Also Mr. Clean Magic eraser is very helpful especially on the grey surface cracks and around drain. Love the look, but this has been frustrating. I've had it since around 2009 I got no help from the manufacturer.

I do not have one, but I've wanted one! I cannot answer all your questions, but just a couple. I think the choice of double or single bowl depends a lot on the size of the sink. If you are going to go with the 30" size, then single bowl would be better - a double bowl sink in a 30" size may mean that neither bowl is big enough to soak roasting pans, cookie sheets, etc. If you go to a 33" or 36" sink, then the choice is personal preference and your cooking/cleaning style. I myself have a single bowl sink and would never go back to a double, but there are just as many people who would only have a double bowl sink. What have you used and liked or disliked in the past? The advantages of stainless apron front over the traditional fireclay apron front sink are: less expensive, easier to install (fireclay can have uneven dimensions and therefore be harder to scribe the countertops around it), lighter so easier to install, will not chip, and you won't need a drain flange for a disposal (fireclay is thick so in order to install a disposal you would need to buy a longer drain flange). Disadvantages are: the look is not traditional the way fireclay is, and stainless shows water spots and scratches (the scratches develop into a patina over time, so I wouldn't worry about that). Regarding faucets, there are SO many choices. I would make sure that you get a sprayer faucet so that you can easily clean into all the corners. I myself prefer a faucet with an integrated sprayer, rather than a side sprayer. You get better water pressure with an integrated sprayer, and a side sprayer means you have to hold onto the handle for the spray to stay on. Pay attention to the reach of the faucet - that dimension is available on all the brands' websites. You don't want the reach to be too short so that you have to reach far into the sink to grab it. There was an interesting thread that I will link regarding SS apron front sinks, and whether to get a curved or straight front. As to brands, I have read on this forum that people really like their Kraus sinks and their Ticor SS stainless sinks; both are heavier 16 gauge. I think Ticor also offers stainless apron front sink with "zero radius" corners, which I would stay away from - those zero radius corners tend to collect gunk. Ticor also offer sinks with "tight radius" corners that will have a very slight curve, which would be easier. A nice kitchen with a SS apron front sink is Hobokenkitchen's.
