I am sorry to hear about your husbands health! I love my Kohler cast iron sink-mine is an apron front...but they have great cast iron ones that are not apron front. How about a smart sink? It is a cast iron so has the white fireclay look to it....and has that great low divider to fit pans but still be two sided? Maybe that is a good compromise? A friend just got one and LOVES it!

Oh Lisa I am sorry to hear that- but you do seem to have a very good attitude based in reality so I am sure you will find a good solution.
I do love the farm sinks but they dont work in my layout... and have been pretty much looking at stainless- until now I will be looking further into those posted above. The first one really looks worth checking out, so thank you cpang.

I'm sorry about your DH...I hope it isn't life threatening! I totally understand your wanting to reduce his stress...after all your DH is so much more important than a sink!

So, maybe we can work with him...what about the apron sink does he not like? Is it b/c the color is so different from the cabinets that it's really obvious? Is it the apron itself? Is it the material it's made of? Or, is it something else?

If it's not the apron itself, perhaps there's an alternate apron sink that would get his approval, they come in SS, copper, bronze, fireclay, granite & other stones, and even sinks with designs on them.

If it is the apron and no apron sink no matter what material, color, etc. will please him, then how about a silgranite sink (see the link below)?

(BTW, I've never used the linked site nor am I affiliated w/it...but I remember others have used it...w/both positive & negative results. Other sites also sell these sinks.)

I second Buehl. We do have Silgranit sinks: purchased 1 from Homeclick and 1 on eBay and I love them both. We have the black which has a bit of a diamond sparkle to it. They are SO easy to keep clean.

Thanks for your support. Actually, I am much more worried about his health than he is as I have a medical background and have been an at-home mom for 17 years. I am scared to death of what's to come to be frank. Just had to get that out. Now, onto sink.

He does not like the styling, period, of apron sink. So, none would fit the bill. Our cabinets are white, countertops (probably) soapstone and I don't know what color of Silgranite would look best with what I have. I will also check out Kohler too. Thanks.

How about a fireclay undermount sink? You would still have the fireclay and a similar look but without the apron front. Perhaps that might be a decent compromise?

The sink I'm thinking of is the complete opposite of a farm sink but I think it works with your other kitchen elements. It reminds me of something you might find in the working kitchens of the Newport mansions. It's got a bit of a "guy" look to it.

I loved the Rohl too, but DH wasn't too keen on the apron front and was afraid it would look tired or dated in a ew years. I wondered if it was too trendy a look and it wasn't essential to the look for our kitchen and home -- not that period. So we went with the largest undermount single bowl stainless sink we could find to fit our space (DH's request after ordereing another sink that didn't work) and now he's really happy. I'm enjoying it too. It's a style similar to the Blanco Prescision.

I'm hoping to get the smaller Rohl in my laundry room. ;-)

Hope things are better for your DH than you are fearing. That's the most important thing.

Definately sorry to hear about your husband. Can't really help you with the sink though. I am all confused myself.

Lisapico, I didn't get a Rohl sink, but am still looking at a smaller one for the laundry room. The stainless sink we got is by KWC and I think we got it from Ira Wood inc (that website)-- probably about that price. We could have gotten it for $2-300 less, but it wasn't in stock there and was backordered for a fairly long time. I think the Blanco Precision one is 18 gauge instead of 16 and costs less too. Its dimensions are about an inch different -- DH wanted the KWC.

I will tell you that it is a bit on the tricky side to get it into a regular depth cabinet with a faucet behind. We had to pull the sink all the way to the front of the cabinet and be very precise in drilling the hole for the faucet -- then pull the faucet to the front of the hole so the handle wouldn't hit the backsplash. If your sink is bumped out, it will be much easier, but you can do it with a standard depth and a little extra care (and cautionary measures with your fabricator). Anyway, the sink is one of half a dozen things in the kitchen that DH takes turns claiming as his favorite.
