Thanks for the advice about size. I had estimated before, something I'm just terrible at, because I didn't want to go outside in the cold. The space is 40' long and the one (6-8 yr. old) Limelight I have is about 6.5'. I do prune it in the fall to keep it from encroaching on what is currently planted in the same bed. The space available between this one and the next hydrangea is a full 14.5', not 8' so nearly double. I've been thinking I could put a single Munstead Wood before the mature hydrangea. This is a smaller space and I've heard MW grows lower (is this correct?) so I thought it would be a nice beginning. The next section would be LofS, a hydrangea and then another grouping of roses finished with a hydrangea. I am hoping to find a rose with a similar growth habit and complementary color to grow on he other side of LofS. My ideas have been all over the place. Carding Mill, A Shropshire Lad, Abraham Darby, Jude the Obscure. Any you'd avoid outright? Any that won't be the right shape? I'm hoping they're bushier rather than tall and leggy. The Golden Celebration I have started out bushier but a cane was broken off early on and I've had trouble with 'octopus arms' every since.

Lady Ashe is tip hardy for me in W. PA ZONE 5/6. Got it from Chamblee's in 2013. Four years in the garden thus far and it is 9 ft. across (4.5 ft. each direction), growing on a 4 ft. fence, and still growing. Extremely BS resistant. Its first flush is in clusters of no more than 4 blooms, but subsequent flushes are one to a stem on 2ft. long stems. Its growth habit is therefore somewhat climbing hybrid tea like as the season progresses. The flowers are not large, never over 4", but are packed with petals and extremely high centered when fully open. Looks like a layer cake. They last an eternity on the bush. The fragrance is strong but does not seem to carry by my nose. Like all climbers it did not take off in its first 2 years. Last year and this year it zoomed ahead. It does like its groceries and responds best to regular fertilization.

My LoS is 12 ft and would be bigger if I let it. I have it espaliered on a wire fence. GC seems to be going to be at least 10ft here. I just got it last spring so who knows. They are both grafted and I live in a warm climate so they get bigger than in some places. Quicksilver is around 8ft here so far. I have 3. 2 are own root and 1 is grafted. The 2 own root are taller than the grafted one so far, lol. LoS has some yellow tones in it. Orange/apricot goes well with lavenders. I guess its just personal preference. Lady of Shalott Quicksilver..often has Quartered blooms If you like pinks, peach and yellow in a large shrub that blooms alot, then I highly recommend Peach Swirl..colors start out strong then mellow and meld together into huge fluffy cupcake blooms. You can even use it to "tie" other colors together in the flowerbed. I use it in a mostly David Austin bed to tie the pinks, lavender, orange, coral, and yellows together in that bed. Stronger colors when opening. Really, Peach Swirl outshines the Austins and is the star of the show lol. Mellowed out peachy, yellows when more open.

@strawchicago z5 so I have an update. After visiting the International Rose Test Garden this past week, I happened upon an entire row of roses identical to mine and was really ecstatic about my luck. They were labeled "April Moon" but that is wrong as it is a white rose. I happen to be friends with one of the rose judges, and she checked her list and confirmed that that row of roses and my own are, indeed, At Last rose. The person I got the rose from confirmed that she used to get roses from Delbard/White Flower Farm and that it is the correct one. For what it's worth, Carding Mill was next to it and was gorgeous, but the fragrance was completely different (myrrh--and stronger). So now I also want to get Carding Mill--it was glorious. But very different. For those that are wondering about 'At Last' rose, I cannot recommend it enough. I know it's not one of the more glamorous varieties out there, but even when it's surrounded by diseased roses it never gets an ounce of blackspot or PM. And it blooms constantly here in PDX (see posts above for my photos).
