I really doubted. . .
Comments (4)Thanks for the encouragement - new today: Blue Lobelia Bibb Lettuce Hyssop 1 lonely rose campion sprout Broccoli What's with the single cilantro sprout? Should I throw some more cilantro seed in there? This is so much fun!!! As an aside - I did some direct sowing today - peas, snap and regular, spinach, chard, radishes and turnips. And my overwintered collards and kale are growing new leaves! Yay!...See MoreI thought I had it figured out but now I am doubting myself.
Comments (7)Thanks everyone for your input! I like the idea of adding in a color or two into each of the rooms to give them some interest. Because I consider decorating my house kind of a hobby of mine, I want that to be reflected in the actual decor. I don't want people to walk in and say of course her rooms are put together, she only used one color. Does that make any sense? Perhaps I care too much what other people MIGHT think when they come into my home. My husband and my little girl feel at home, thats what matters! But just so you get a better idea of what I am talking about, I will post some pictures after I am feeling better. I have the flu right now and the house doesn't look quite photo-ready!!...See MoreWhat color is Lady of Shalott?
Comments (9)Beautiful rose Kate! I really enjoy the roses that show a range of colors and I'm taking you up on your call for roses with ever-changing colors. My contribution is Koko Loco with its interesting shades of brown, mauve and lavender. Probably not everyone's cup of tea but I'm enjoying it! This pinky brown bloom just opened a couple of days ago when it was in the mid-80's. It didn't last as long as some blooms in the cooler days of spring when one bloom lasted over 7 days! This is first bloom I got in April after bringing the rose home from the nursery. It has a more grayish/mauve tint, less brown than the one above. When it was cooler, the blooms opened more slowly, less flat than the one above. I love the more "pointy" vs. rounded petals. This pinky/mauve bloom is the one that lasted 7 whole days before it blew. I think this was longest lasting bloom I've ever experienced in my yard. This is same bloom as above, now fully pink. I'm looking forward to more lovely shades next year! Ann...See MoreLady of Shalott: experiences no-spray in humid zone?
Comments (19)My Lady of Shallot is almost always some blend of peach, pink and yellow. It’s own root in slightly alkaline soil...barely over ph 7. I knew it would want to be tall in our climate so I started pruning it to about 4 foot high (ie. Clipping back any octopus canes). It seems to have settled into being a thick hedge. When temps reach 100 the petal crisp but hold well in the low 90s. We have dry heat. Mine gets about 6 hours sun. Zero fungal issues; rust and mildew are the big problems here. We never get blackspot. I don’t bother removing leaves in the winter, which you have to do here on the roses if you need to have a period of no leaves for horticulture oil spray and other cleanup desires. And still no fungal issues on last year’s leaves either. The canes are very thin and flexible so would be easy to train for climbing. I wanted a freestanding tall rose with leaves to the ground and it seems to be complying. I searched my photos and found the one that was most orange (black background) plus a few others with her more typical colors in my yard. The pink is Paul Neyron, which is a terrible ruster here....See MoreMischievous Magpie (CO 5b)
