Never mind, I see you're in Louisiana. Well, I have the Duchess and I can't imagine her being happy in anything less than full sun, so maybe site B for her? I think Souvenir de la Malmaison can take some shade, but not sure about the amounts in sites D and E. I think it might be ok in one of those. I'm far from an expert, though. So much to do, yet here I sit:) Those Teas want a lot of sun. I have read in an old post that someone was growing Angels Camp Tea in some shade, and that it still rebloomed well. It apparently doesn't get huge either, Mrs. Dudley Cross on the other hand needs full sun and does get large. Great looking rose though. I guess Mrs. DC is thornless and has wonderful disease resistance. The disease resistance is probably pretty important in New Orleans. Lisa

I spent about 5 years in southern Louisiana and its kinda like here (NE FL) weather-wise but the soil is different lol. Anyhow, you might need to think about having good circulation or it will be black spot city. I have a lot of teas and noisettes and try to keep them spaced out and not too crammed up against stuff. It helps a lot with fungal isssues because it rains all dang summer here and I don't spray for a lot of reasons, but for one, during the summer, it would just get washed off anyways lol..

You might try Marechal Niel because he seems to love hot humid areas. He's doing awesome here for me. Its a baby yellow fragrant climber- Noisette. It goes well with all my pinks and lavenders.

Lisa, I think you're correct that Mrs DC should get that sunniest spot, especially because it gets the most "traffic" so she could spread out and breathe and be her full glorious self without injuring anybody. What is your experience with the thorniness/prickliness of DdB (or any of the others)?

And yes, Jasmine, there will be blackspot, no use pretending otherwise! As long as the plant is happy, I can handle ugly leaves. Of course the key word with the teas is "resistant" and not "immune," and I figure if anything is going to shrug off a bit of blackspot (or whatever other fungal nonsense) it's going to be these. I probably don't have to point out that it's a HUGE mess out there right now and much of the vegetation you see will be yanked out (sooo many weeds, sooo much grass) or cleaned up (Mexican heather, day lilies, hydrangea, bottlebrush). I might keep a few small border companions while they're babies, but I plan on giving them all the space they want as they age. A good rule of thumb for all ladies I think. ;)

Great thread! Can't help (don't "personally know" any of the roses),but can SO relate to the situation...I myself have an embaressingly large number of roses which "I had no buisness buying" and which I now have to place in my garden,so I'm playing a matching game meself...

Oh Bart and Kes, I don't know why, but I always feel much better knowing others do the same thing I do, don't you. I have no business buying them, but SO FAR, it has worked out. I do find a place for them although right now, I know that with 9 roses to find spots for, I have to work with what I have. I'm at the very edge of feeling overwhelmed, so I won't be buying another thing until everything is in the ground. Lisa

Another thing that's very helpful is looking at those photos up there. I mean if posting BEFORE photos for all the world to see doesn't motivate me to get it together I don't know what will!

The funniest part is that normally by now I'm being lazy cause it's so hot. But we've had some weirdly pleasant weather this year so now I'm being lazy because I have to enjoy the nice porch weather while it lasts, right? Priorities!

I totally get it, lyannastark. I'll tell you what gets me off my butt faster than anything else, company coming over! I'm such an awful procrastinator, it's a crying shame. But if I know people are coming over to see the garden, I somehow find the energy to do those tasks I've put off. Why I'm too tired when there's no pressure, leads me to believe it's mostly mental. I know some is physical, but I can pull it off when visitors are coming, I ought to be able to do those "dreaded things" more often. I recognize this, but it still doesn't get me going most of the time. I admit to inviting family over sometimes just to motivate myself into doing a particular chore I've been avoiding. Don't get me wrong, I love gardening. There are just sometimes or some things I don't feel like doing. Anyone else have this? Sorry for straying, lynnastark. Lisa

Mine is in full sun all day, yet its foliage never looks quite healthy. She blooms nonstop. I can't quite figure it out. I was worried for her in Arkansas with diseases in part shade, but it must be just my particular plant/situation. Lisa

For some time now my energy level has been very low, and now that the heat has really arrived it's worse than ever. So, yes, Lisa,I at least do put off chores and procrastinate,too.
