Sub Zero refrigerator--internal water/ice or on the door?
Comments (7)I researched this to the nth degree and ultimately decided I had to have an ice dispenser and went with a Gaggenau freezer tower with custom panel and ice/water in-door. These are also sold under the Miele and Thermador brand names too. They don't make internal ice dispensers just ice buckets/storage bins. From everything I read the SZ dispenser is very finicky about the water quality/water hardness and water pressure fed to it. Unlike competitors the ice dispenser goes from the freezer to the refrigerator side causing increased failures that can cost several hundred dollars to fix each time. Obviously if you use a lot of ice opening the freezer constantly will increase temperature variability, freezer burn/frost, and energy cost. Opening the refrigerator constantly for cold water will do the same minus freezer burn/frost. BTW The ladies in the Kitchen Forum will tell you that putting an ice dispenser on a wood paneled freezer is like a pimple on the tip of your nose. :) BTW II Sub Zero is made in Wisconsin while Gaggenau/Thermador/Miele is made by Bosch in a Bosch owned factory in Turkey....See MoreAutomatic Ice Dispenser on Refrigerator Not Making Ice (4 Pics)
Comments (5)Thank you so much for all your thoughtful responses. I'm pleased to say i awoke this morning to see ice had collected in the bucket. Last night, i used a hair dryer (of all things!) to melt some ice that had hardened around and within the black rubber tube that apparently feeds water into the ice tray. Although i'm not entirely certain this will represent a long-term fix, for now at least it seems i may have dodged this home-maintenance bullet. Thank you again for your thoughts everyone, and have a great New Year!...See MoreHELP! My New Refrigerator's Water/Ice taste like Plastic!
Comments (150)@David Boclair, Thank you so much for posting your solution of turning the water filter to the second click when installing to solve our toxic water taste in our LG refrigerator!!! We purchased the refrigerator in December 2022 and the store we bought it from took it back to their shop in February to check the plastic water taste, which they said they could never taste, and they finally agreed to replace the water basin and the tubing. We didn't get the fridge back from them until May 26--thankfully they gave us a loaner during that time. However, it still had the toxic plastic taste. I found your post last night and turned the filter another click to the right--I had a hard time gripping the filter to turn it because you have to really twist it hard, so I used a rubber thing you would use to help open jars--and that solved the toxic plastic taste!!! Long story, but after getting the filter in the correct position, I took it out and submerged it in water, just to make sure the air was out of it (as was also suggested). Anyway, I found that the filter was much easier to twist to the correct position after submerging it in water. So, it may be a helpful tip to submerge the filter in water first until it stops bubbling and then install it in the fridge. Thank you again for helping so many people with this horrible, but easy to solve, issue!!!...See MorePlumbing Question: Fridge with water/ice door dispenser
Comments (5)You could have: crimped water line to the fridge plugged fridge filter (if it is a model with a filter) valve on the fridge feed water line not fully open valve on the fridge feed water line not functioning properly internal fridge valve malfunction saddle valve for fridge feed water line (these are notoriously poor valves) As to the pressure gauge, you would need to install one off of a tee in the line feeding the fridge so you can see static pressure as well as flow pressure....See More
