I think I may have lost my succulent...
Comments (2)It looks sunburned to me. :-/ They need to introduced to the outdoors gradually. I don't know if it is savable. You may want to take it out of the pot and see if it still has roots. Cactus and succulents really shouldn't be watered on a schedule. They need to dry out in between. It takes some time to learn what each one needs. Many of us judge by the weight of the pot. It's hard to help with with the care of your others, without knowing what they are. If you know the names, you can google for information, or post pictures here for help....See MoreLithops rotting I think? Help what do I do!
Comments (3)Plants don't always turn to instant mush when rotting, perhaps the second head was weaker/more susceptible than the first. Your Lithops looks like one plant with two heads. It is supposedly possible to divide them, but you likely will have to cut the main root apart. It is important to not damage the meristem. They are also supposed to be difficult to root, I've never tried it myself and don't know anybody who has. If you change to a more appropriate mix with low water retention (something very gritty and minerally on top), then you may be able to keep that portion dry and the rot may stop. Worst case is that head is toast and you lop it off to save the other. http://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/SUCCULENTS/Family/Aizoaceae/17690/Lithops_aucampiae_subs._euniceae_cv._Bellaketty (Not sure if this is your species)....See MoreHelp! I think my succulents may be dying! Can I save them?!
Comments (17)You need to get them growing properly first before thinking of what you do with them at a later stage. If you are new to this, best keep them individually potted as they are different types, you can always group pots in a container and cover rims with stones for a group look! Whether they will pull round remains to be seen as they look pretty damaged at the moment. You won't be able to buy a soil off the shelf, sadly no one sems to sell anything that resembles a good fast draining mix, that's why we need the separate ingredients to mix together. Comments (34)Greetings, everyone! This topic is alive and well! I am having the same problem ... Reinita birds are visiting my porch. First they pecked all the coco liner out of my orchid pots. I got rid of those even though I liked them. Then they started making nests between my pots. I pulled those out before they could finish. Now they are EATING my succulents. OMG ... They have done so much damage. I've had to move my succulents one by one to an inside location in order for them to recuperate. Two have died from so much pecking. I collect succulents for color and texture, so what they got were reds, blue-greens, yellows ... I'm pissed! Birdbath / feeder & water did not work ... It just increased the bird population to my porch. I tried to play nice with them and they still ate my succulents. Once birds ID your succulents as a source of food/water, they won't stop ...PERIOD. I do not like the idea of covering my succulents with a cage. That defeats the purpose and aesthetics of display. I am considering gaudy things now, like purchasing mini reflective silver pinwheels to place in random pots. Perhaps the finch will be deterred by their own reflections and movement. Mirrors may be an option but will be impossible to keep clean. Those solar activated plastic movement things may work, too. I understand owl and other figures with big eyes, and even stuffed animals scare birds. Maybe I'll try gluing big craft eyes or painting faces on my pots. Final option would be to sprinkle cayenne pepper or a product that contains it over all my pots. The problem is it will potentially harm these beautiful little birds and that is not my intention. Just look at this adorable little guy!...See Morelatcherlucy15
