I don't know why but this reminded me of one of those renovation shows (Property Brothers iirc) where they had to move palm trees over the house with a crane to get them to the back yard.

VERY exciting! I was just telling friends today about having 4 huge shallow rooted pine trees in my yard cut down years ago, and that required a crane, too. My late Dad was always worried that they'd go down in a bad wind storm, and smash the house with me in it. :-) I saved one, and this is what happened 2 months after Dad died. He was RIGHT, but it fell away from the house.

Your pool is IN and safely! Can't wait to see it finished.

A good reminder when someone is building and they can't make up their mind whether to do the pool now or later. Much easier and cheaper to do the pool work before building the house!

A house down the street from us just sold and the new owners are adding a pool. The only access was a side gate that only allowed a small bobcat tractor through.

Cripe ! I couldn't even watch when they hauled in my counter and installed it! That pool install would have been the end of my day!

In 2009, this happened to a house and a crane a few blocks from my house.

OMG - what an ordeal. Only other residential crane project I've been in the loop on is when friends of ours had a giant metal statue of liberty sculpture dropped into the courtyard in the middle of their house. I can see I live a relatively mundane life....

Mimosas by the pool! And after this excitement, you'll need a strong one :)

My3dogs that is so scary about the tree falling! We have so many trees here, I worry about one falling on the house some day.

chispa that is true! We should have done the pool before we did our screen porch and patio and we wouldn't have had to crane it in. Nothing can be brought from our driveway directly to the pool area now b/c we have a patio w/ fire pit and a screen porch in the way. If we hadn't put those in first, this would have been much easier... but I didn't think I wanted a pool here until I decided I did.

Crazy!

We have lots of items moved by cranes in my neighborhood. I always stop to watch as it is fascinating and a bit nerve-wracking. One neighbor's replacement refrigerator had to be craned up two stories and another had to use a crane to hoist a tree into their lot.

My3dogs, thank goodness your saved tree fell away from your house. Still plenty of damage, but it could have been so much worse.

I would say "instant gratification" with a drop in pool but I remember you working on every detail of every rock of your paradise pool area design.

I think the surrounding landscaping is going to take a while. We're bringing in lots of boulders and plantings to create a lagoon-like atmosphere.

My 3dogs, I worry about that a lot; we are encircled by old trees who are probably mad at us for all of the construction disturbance we caused.

Beagles, what fun! Fiberglass is probably more durable and less maintenance, too.

We woke in the morning to this a few months ago. This is taken from our deck. Thankfully it fell away from the house....we were asleep and never heard a thing.

I'm curious. Price wise, was the fiberglass less or does it come out about the same as plaster?

MtnRdRedux that is what they say about the durability. They also said that it is far less likely to grow algae and that we won't have to run the heater as much. We wanted to do a concrete w/ the dark grey interior, but absolutely no one thought it was a good idea to build that kind of pool in this spot... Hopefully this will turn out for the best!

robo, yes the pool will be deep blue inside, which is supposed to produce dark blue water. There will be lots of stone overhanging the sides of the pool to make it look more natural.

texan jana, I know it is crazy that there were people standing underneath it!

1929Spanish-GW normally a fiber glass pool is cheaper than a concrete or gunite because it is quicker to install. However, it depends upon the location and accessibility (and of course the surrounding landscaping is priced separately). If you're thinking about a pool and curious about pricing, I have a detailed quote breakdown which shows exactly how much the shell is direct from the company (separate from installation and surround of course).

Now that the hard part is done, I'll share my pool/crane disaster story. This was in one of my old neighborhoods. The lot was a narrow patio home lot so they had to bring the pool over the top of the garage. Something went wrong and the pool dropped on top of the garage, half in, half out. It was quite a sight to see when I was driving home that night.
