Black spots on ZZ plant stems
Comments (6)I think that's actually normal for Zamioculcas zamiifolia grown in bright light. Unless the stalks are squishy / smelly / collapsing, I wouldn't worry about it. The "leaves" around the base may or may not be normal for Zamioculcas -- it could be that leaves of another plant that was being grown in the same spot fell off and landed in your plant's pot, or it could be that you're seeing a normal part of the plant. Sometimes, but not always, the new leaves come out with a sort of sheath on them, similar to what Philodendrons do, which dries up eventually, and sometimes they come out naked from the beginning. I don't know how the plant decides to do this sometimes but not others, but I don't think it's anything to worry about, either....See MoreWrinkled Stem Ends on My Romas?
Comments (5)Wow, thanks for all the help on trying to diagnose this problem. I did just cut off some of the affected parts yesterday in a marathon sauce-making session. However, here are some closeups that I hope show some of the wrinkling better. This one is just a little bit wrinkled. This one is worse, and is a good example of what most of the affected fruit looks like. The only tomatoes showing this are the Romas. I have several other varieties in the bed that are not showing any abnormalities. The Roma plants are unsupported, which means that they are sprawling, and some of the fruit is touching the ground. Also, many of these were picked right after two days of heavy rain, after a month of drought. Besides the coming cold snap, I picked them because I was afraid they would crack. So I've been wondering if this is an effect of inconsistent watering, kind of the opposite of cracking? Hope the new pics help. Thanks. They do make an excellent sauce. The house smelled so good yesterday! Alison...See MoreHow long for ZZ Plant stem to grow and unfurl?

Comments (0)I‘m reviving a previously neglected ZZ plant. It lost many of its branches (dried up and fell off) however the thick stems of all the lost branches are still sticking out of the bulbous roots. The plant is definitely healing and has sprouted a few new branches (yay!) - but those old stems are just sitting there, unchanged. Should I trim them back? Is there anything I can do to encourage new growth from the old stems? Thanks in advance for any insight, tips or tricks!...See MoreUser
