My room layout is similar and I've been looking at swivel chairs for many weeks. I thought my choices were either skirted or modern/leather. But yesterday a designer showed me a picture of a nice looking chair by Zagaroli--with legs! The designer was going to ask Zagaroli if they could make it with a higher back, but I doubt whether I'd take a chance on that without being able to see it first. I'll be curious to hear what you end up with. I'm not thrilled about skirted upholstery, but the Sherrill and Jessica Charles rocking/swivel chairs are very comfy and some are normal height (19-20" from floor). My DH has long legs and needs a decent height/depth chair. He was comfortable in the Lafer too, but I'm a little concerned about incorporating such mordern elements. Les makes a good point about the leaning aspect of the swivel chairs. It could be a plus or a minus. You could always do like in the photo and get two of each. I actually like that look better than the matchy-matchy look of having all swivel chairs or the jumble of legs that having four of the others would give. Give your guests a choice. Or have a choice for yourself, maybe one day you want to swivel and lean, and another day wish for more upright support. -------- I just looked up Duradek flooring. It looks like some miracle stuff. Tough as nails. It is impervious to rock salt and kitty litter and UV rays and chlorine. Cool stuff.

Thanks so much for the feedback, everyone. It is interesting how different everyone's experience is with these stools.ie. some have problems with the swivel, or swivel return, others do not! I wonder if some swivels are "stiffer" than others and don't swing around so much? I love your barstool, buel. (I love how when I moused over the photo, I could find out exactly what it was and where you bought it!I just checked- they aren't carrying it anymore.) Shar-az- what a good idea to put a clear bumper on the stool! I actually called my granite company today to ask if they have had problems with people chipping the granite edge with a counter stool--they said they have never had a customer call to ask for one to be repaired, at least. Jterrilynn- I like your idea of a dark leather or vinyl seat. I never thought about making it easier to slide off; I was just thinking about color and ease of cleaning. My first pick was really this stool which has a brown vinyl seat-- I just had a bit of sticker shock when I put 4 of them in my cart (with tax it is close to $600 and I still need to buy another two more bar-height ones for the dining room!) Then I started questioning the whole swivel thing. It is too expensive to make a mistake. I think now I may just go ahead and bit the bullet and pay the money. I was running around all day today looking at bar stools! What do you all think of this one? My cabinets are a honey-spice maple, with a light colored granite, so it will be a contrast. The measurements are: 31" tall 33" wide 32" deep My sofa is 35"H and other chair is 37"Hx32"Wx31"D That seems rather short, though from perspective of TV viewing perhaps that'd be OK since when swiveled around it may partially block the view from people sitting at the sectional. It will be placed partially in front of the bookcase so there is still something to draw the eye up. What do you think? It's been listed for 5 days--so I do think I could make an offer. In terms of looks, I'd also prefer a chair with legs, but then there is no swivel and I think the swivel will be more impt. so that it can function both as another chair for conversation and for TV occasional viewing. DH like the little leather chairs that are on a swivel stand and the stand is visable-yech! In 3-5 years when the teenagers move out I can always change it and with the price and fabric I won't worry if it gets worn.
