Chicken feeder problem - my chickens waste their feed a lot...
Comments (2)the best feeder I've ever owned for poultry is a 4 inch pvc pipe with both ends capped. It's about 3 feet long. one third of the pipe is cut away, like a slice off the length. The caps are screwed on to two triangular pieces of treated 2x6. Those are about8 inches high and about 12 inches long. the capps are then glued on to the pipe. It's like a trough. they can't peck the feed out or sratch it out. You can also use it for water if you put the screws toward the top of the cap. I have one also made from 2 inch pipe for chicks, keeps the mama from scratching all the chick starter out..and keeps the wee babes out of the water....See MoreNational Sticky Bun Day
Comments (73)I tried posting this yesterday and got some kind of maintenance page, so I know this is late. AM, King Arthur Flour sells the cinnamon chips (see link below). I'm sure other online sellers do also, but that's where I usually get them. I've never seen them in stores. That doesn't mean they aren't available, but the selection of baking items is pretty skimpy in my neighborhood. Annie, we have 3 sugar maples along the front road, and if I were to guess, those are probably the only sugar maples for a 100 miles. My DH found them root-bound and neglected in an overgrown "no-man's-land" at the back of an old nursery owned by an elderly gentleman. I doubt tapping those would yield more than a teaspoon. Not to mention we've had almost no cold weather this winter. The crocuses are up and the ornamental cherries and plums are blooming. Hardly ideal for maple-sugaring. Thank goodness for Trader Joe's and the lovely (and well-priced) Grade B maple syrup they offer from our Canadian neighbors. Costco's I haven't tried. Since there are no children in the house, even with baking maple syrup lasts a long time here. Definitely OT, but I'm remembering the homemade pancake syrup we made when I was a child. I think it was some mixture of brown sugar, white sugar, water and Watkins maple flavoring. Karo has its uses, as Annie mentioned, especially for candy-making. I use a small amount in maraschino cherries to prevent the syrup from crystallizing and the same in some fudge recipes. Carol...See MoreNeed help with 'glue' for oven fried chicken...
Comments (11)Shambo, I know I'm a week late, but I got a tip...I thought it was from Lindac here...to do it exactly as she just described above...but FIRST...dry off the meat with a paper towel. If I've had the presence of mind, I usually soak the chicken (or pork) in milk (or buttermilk) and seasonings. When I'm ready to cook, I dump it all into a colander to drain. Then piece-by-piece, I pick one up, dry it off with a paper towel, then flour, egg dip, crumbs and set it on a greased rack over a cookie sheet for oven "frying." It's more labor intensive, but it keeps the coating on the chicken!! It works!...See MoreAnyone have a recipe for Turkey on Buns
Comments (6)dee1, I was just avoiding the possibility of useing a word that might cause it to be picked up. I remember the year when talking about the "willow branches with the fuzzy little bumps" caused many to be thrown off the board. It was just because of the first word of ----- willow was one of the watched for words for nasty talk. It was really quiet funny how it all happened. LOL It most likely isn't necesary. Actually I shouldn't have even mentioned it because my spelling is so bad that no body would notice! LOL...See More- 9 years ago
