Dividing lilies question

P TW

I had some Stargazer lilies in a poor location (getting too shaded and crowded by another plant) so I decided to move them today. I noticed they had a few babies...but a lot more than I expected! My original 3 now seem to be 20 bulbs. About 5 decent-sized, and the rest fairly small.

Question: when replanting if you don't have enough space, is it better to keep the younger, smaller ones, or to keep the larger (and presumably older) ones? Or is there a different criteria for which ones you keep?

I'd like to know because this fall I will be dividing my Casa Blanca lilies, and I think the original three have multiplied also to around 20 and I don't have nearly enough space for them all.

Thanks!
