Its me again....Refining Kitchen Cabinet design looking for input
Comments (8)I like your new design a lot. Not a pro or expert, I think the pullouts would be fine near the range. i am wondering about your far left cabinet next to the fridge. is that your pantry? You have drawers, then a small middle cabinet, then a tall top cabinet, and at The very top glass. Are the long top parts full depth (24”)? Are they pullouts or just cabinets? my concern is that the middle cabinet is too small to be really useful (or are those just big doors designed to look like separate cabinets)? Also if not pullouts the 24“ depth may be tough as things will get lost in the back. I’d personally want either shallower uppers (and maybe combine the middke and top to be 1 larger cabinet), or full pull outs....See MoreCustom house build - looking for kitchen design input
Comments (13)Just_janni thanks for your response. I actually feel like our design is very functional but I appreciate the perspective of others. The wall ovens are side opening so the landing zone for that is the counter to the right of the range top. That makes it easy to open with my left hand and grab the food with my right and pivot a step to place it on that countertop. I also don’t camp out in front of the ovens causing crowds, I put stuff in and pull stuff out and I’m gone. The fridge and freezer landing zone is the space left of the island sink as that will be my prep area so it’s all in one place. The microwave has a countertop below it for those needs. I wanted a clean up zone and I have a large one on the other side. The right side of the island is where I will store my every day dishes so that is the natural plating area for meals. I will also put my baking gear on that side of the range. That side won’t get as much use as the other side but it is a very large kitchen so it’s ok. I also didn’t want to have a bunch of stuff on that side because it’s the pathway to the laundry room and master suite. I think I will add a pantry door to the other side of the pantry, near garage/mudroom, so that is a walk through, and feel that will improve the flow....See MoreTime for a new kitchen (pandemic-accelerated)
Comments (21)Thanks Beuhl. Just to clarify, the new plan is basically my current plan and it works fine. I just want to move the fridge and range to gain counter space, lose the uppers, lengthen the island from 6.5 feet to 9:feet by extending 2.5 ft closer to the living room, change the floors and reconfigure the perimeter and island cabinets. Most significantly, I want to make sure that I have configured the cabinets appropriately. The kitchen is 21 feet from top to bottom (living room to back of range wall. It is 24.5 feet wide from the floor to ceiling windows in the eating area (which is 10 ft x 5.5 ft) to.the back of the new fridge location. The two Ls are 12 foot each. There really are no doors in the space. The kitchen is completely open to the living room.. The dining room (no door) is off to the upper right and the garage is up at the top, as noted. That’s where we usually come in with groceries. The front door opens to the center hall with staircase directly ahead, a study on the left and the dining room to the right. Moving couterclockwise, the kitchen is behind the dining room and the living room is next to that, ending back with the study. It’s a pretty simple, center core design. I would definitely post all the additional measurements, but I am not going to change the layout since it basically works but can be improved (and I love projects...). But if I am missing something, like maybe my ovens are in the wrong place, or the size of my drawers or what I propose storing there doesn’t make sense, then I’d love to hear it. Right now, my island ends exactly at the same place as the left cabinet run—will it be off to extend it into what is essentially an empty space. (I did maintain 39 inches between the end of the island and the bar cabinet corner. That’s my only pinch point, but I can’t lengthen the island to 9 ft unless I live with the 39 inches or make the bar cabinet smaller. That sort of thing. For example, I realized that I need a tall drawer for a giant pasta pot. There was no place to put it, so I made room for a tall drawer in the bar cabinet. So that’s the sort of mistake I am concerned about. I think this design works, and it is not so far off from what I have now. long response, I know. by the way, does anyone else have a problem deleting text from a post, like the text that follows? would definitely post all the additional easurement info...See MoreDesign input needed to bring my kitchen into this century!
Comments (5)Definitely agree on moving the cooktop. As well as redoing the island. The rest of the details depend on what you choose for finishes. You seem to like light bright and airy. I do too! What about a light blue island with the rest white. Matching backsplash and countertops and pretty, chrome traditional detailed hardware......See MoreDavid Smith
