Master Bath reveal
Comments (36)phylhl, your bathroom is beautiful! I am in the final planning stages of a master bath renovation myself, and I have some questions about your bathroom. In a previous bathroom update, we used the same Rohl showerhead as your handheld, but as a fixed showerhead. I find that it is almost impossible to change the functions. It definitely takes both hands to do so, but even then, it is extremely difficult. I called Rohl about it and they said it is supposed to be tight. Are you finding yours difficult to change? I see something in your shower that looks like a hook--? Just below the decorative panel and in front of the bench. Is that what it is? And is that a towel bar inside the shower on the half wall next to the shower door? If so, what is the material and make of the towel bar? My husband and I both use washcloths and I am struggling with what to hang them on in our shower. I want everything to be pretty, but it also must be very functional. I am having a hard time meeting both requirements here. :) Last question: is that a Rohl country bath toilet paper holder? Have you had any problems with the TP hook falling off the wall trim piece? The one I used in my other bath kept falling off. Rohl replaced it twice, and I finally gave up and had a handyman glue the hook onto the trim piece to keep it from falling off all the time. Sorry this is so long--thanks for your response!...See MoreHall bath reveal
Comments (26)We remodeled our bathroom with an initial quote of $17,000 for tear out and disposal of old fixtures and flooring, new travertine tile with Installation over heated floor, travertine baseboard with a 36" tiled wet area on the wall in tub space only. The existing separate shower retained exact footprint. We redid the walls in composite granite slab from a company whose initials are GT, install plumbing fixtures that we purchased and finally new frameless glass shower surround and door. We purchased or hired other services on our own: Pedestal tub, plumbing fixtures, sinks, granite tops, painter for existing cabinets, plus 4 end panels, new knobs, wallpaper removal, wall paint and painter, frames for mirrors over vanities, comfort height toilet, lighting fixtures and all decorations including drapes. All of this came to another $11,000. We could have done it more cost effectively, we didn't set out to spend this much. We were shocked at prices even with not even getting close to top of the line products though we did get some splurge items such as the tub and floor. The sky's the limit in prices these days. We saved money where we could. When there are two vanities, there's two of everything which adds up. The biggest expense was the flooring, followed by the pedestal tub and stand alone British tub faucet and the frameless glass shower enclosure. We did it over a two year time frame after the initial necessities and hard surfaces were in and finally just recently put up drapes after nearly 6 years! I cringe to think we spent $28K on a bathroom redo that didn't even include changing the floor plan or new cabinets....See MoreReno. Is. Done. Kitchen reveal at long last!
Comments (64)Phylhl, Ceramic tile is a relatively maintenance-free product that requires little continuing care beyond regular cleaning. Most cleaning can be done with a damp cloth and a gentle non-acidic soap. More resistant staining such as calcium spotting and soap scum can be handled using specially designed cleaning products such as Miracle Sealants Mira Clean I product. Other manufacturers such as Stone Tech also offer products specially formulated for ceramic tile care. Take care to avoid âÂÂover the counterâ ceramic tile cleaners that contain phosphoric and glycolic acids that could etch some ceramic tile surfaces. Because crackle glazes are prone to absorbing stains, you may want to consider using a penetrating sealer. In areas that experience regular moisture, such as showers, resealing crackle glazes is a necessary maintenance procedure but for a kitchen backsplash, not completely necessary. If you don't seal the tile the crackles will darken over time giving it an antique type look. Some people love this, it is just up to you on what you want to do. Using a sealer does not affect the quality or appearance of the tile, just make sure you don't use too much or the sealer will leave a film on the surface. I would recommend sealing once a year just as you would with your stone counter tops. Thank you again for sharing and I hope this helps!
