Menu planning help pls...Lunch
Comments (15)Glad to hear it went well. I love those kind of summer, salady meals! And I am a huge fan of anitpasta platters, where folks can pick and choose their own perfect little plates! As for lentils, like I said, I love lentil salad too and I always have to struggle getting the lentils just right--not too mushy, not to hard. I now special order French green lentil and also have tried the black beluga ones. They are both rounder and seem to be better for salads. But anyway, glad to hear the dinner went well. I knew it would! But I still love it when folks report back. What can I say, I am so busy and devoid of a social life I have to live vicariously through others, lol! So thanks for sharing the fun!...See MoreMenu planning frustrations
Comments (12)amck brought up good points. Many of these issues are not medical necessary restrictions but what people prefer at the moment. I have a friend who prefers to eat glutton free but at restaurants or at someones house she eats what is served. A recently published study said that about 75% of people eating glutton free have no medical reason to. While its great to be concerned with the ingregients in your food, eating one meal that isn't "sugar free, etc" is not going affect your overall diet. People can simply choose not to eat something. I am, what many would consider, a picky eater. I do not like most of the food I grew up with (german, polish). I had many dinners at weddings and such, of just a roll and butter. Even now if I go to any type of buffet I usually only find a few things to eat. I don't complain or even mention that I don't like the food. Rarely do I go to someones home for a sit down dinner but can't remember not eating most/all of the meal. Most of my family and friends don't invite people for a small dinners. That being said I have no sympathy for requests that are not medically necessary. Its easy to just pass on a certain food or pick out the "celery". I've been doing it all my life. Perhaps a note on an invite that says "All I guaranty is that the food will be delicious"....See MoreNew Years Menu/Plans?
Comments (15)New Year's Eve if we are still awake we will wish each other Happy New Year. If we are asleep we will wake up as usual the next morning and wish each other Happy New Year. There will be fireworks in the neighborhood so most likely I will be snuggling with the dogs and holding Buddy in my lap. He is the one who is most afraid of the fireworks. For our New Years meal we will have hopping john, cornbread, turnip greens and whatever else anyone wants. Those three are must haves. Linda...See MoreHow Many are Now Planning Their Christmas Menu?
Comments (45)I sometimes make Seafood Gumbo for Christmas eve. Regretfully, DSIL doesn’t care for shrimp and my gumbo is full of it. For him, I might make a small pot of Chicken and Sausage gumbo. Christmas Day is spent with my sister and her family, DD, DSIL, and the kiddos, about 12 of us at table. Frequently, we have Eggs Benedict, cheese grits, fruit, Bloody Marys and Mimosas for brunch. Our evening meal is often a whole tenderloin, potatoes au gratin, asparagus or something else green, and dessert. This year, I‘m going to suggest that the tenderloin be oven-roasted with a peppercorn crust. When DSIL and DSS grill it, it is often too rare for most of us. @functionthenlook if you aren’t already set on a recipe for your Ham and Potato Casserole look at Ham, Cheese, and Potato Casserole from Leite’s Culinaria. It is sooooo good! It is basically dressed up potatoes au gratin....See Morerosesstink
