I used Barker for my old kitchen. Great to work with. We moved after s couple of years. Cant speak to longevity of the painted finish (White Dove) but it was similar to other factory finished cabs we considered. They were solid and easy to assemble and install.

Barker's is about a 20 minute drive from me. I've been wanting to go visit them as we may end up using them for our vanity. They have an excellent reputation for quality, ease of assembly, and customer service. About a year or so ago they got inundated with orders as the recession eased and got behind schedule, but that's the only bad thing I've ever read about them. There are threads here that you can find on a search. Two other RTA cabinet companies also recommended on the kitchen forum is Scherr's and Conestoga from the Cabinet Joint.

A 13.5" cabinet box is a why bother size. Too small by far to do anything but a bottle of aspirin.

As a substitute for a medicine chest, that size will work nicely for the small items one has in a bathroom, such as hair products and deodorant. I have no input on that brand, though.

jmarino - Good to hear they're easy to assemble and install, as I'm the assembler and installer!

mayflowers - I tried Scherr's and Conestoga. Both have a minimum # of cabinets. I'll search for Barker threads.

Sophie Wheeler - Well, sometimes we have to compromise. Plenty big for a medicine cabinet to hold daily hygiene items and have an internal electrical outlet! It's to replace one of those even smaller, recessed medicine cabinets squished into the corner on one side of the vanity. The bathroom has a 5'x4' linen closet, a double vanity and room for a free-standing cabinet should even more storage be needed.

Here is my old kitchen. This is before we completed all of the finish trim. Sorry it's long. Toward the middle-end of the post there is a photo of a walnut Dining hutch that I made using barker cabinets. I used long end panels to finish the sides so it looks like one piece, not two stacked cabinets. I'm sure there are longer panels available? Maybe under tall pantry cabinets? I couldn't find the right storage furniture to fit the corner of my dining room, between the radiator and wall and not taller than the window cornice. This is 32" w x 16" deep and just the right height.

Barker also makes tall panels for fridge surrounds if you really want to go higher.

We too did a Barker kitchen a few years ago and loved it. Have since moved and considering another one.

Ahh, jmarino19 and lucas_tx-gw, I didn't even look at the fridge surrounds. Looks like I have to go an inch deeper as minimum is 7, whereas minimum for regular cabinet end panels is 6, but that's workable. Thank you!

Received a very through (and positive) response from Barker Cabinets. I just need to decide on height. I sooooo cannot do this in my mind. I've always been decisive about the physical but not the imaginary.

Del, you can do this. Sometimes remodeling gets a bit overwhelming at times with the little unanticipated annoying details. You will make beautiful choices as you always do. A year from now you will hardly remember the frustrations and will just be enjoying it all : ) The finish line is near.

I also live in Barker's backyard- they used to offer some sort of pickup, however, I have been unable to figure out exactly how that works. Fedex or UPS (can't remember) has always delivered the items the 10 miles... I've used them for two different "guts" of cabinets- a replacement drawer for one that broke (in non-Barker cabinets), and roll out tray shelves. Things arrived as promised, in perfect condition, exactly as described. The items were well crafted and are very sturdy.

designsavvy, I read your 2015 thread when mayflowers (upthread here) mentioned Barker problems a couple of years ago. The amount of problems you had was mind boggling and what a strain on getting everything done! So far I'm coming up empty-handed in getting just one cabinet done, except through Barker. Thank you for giving me an idea of what problems could arise!
