I am going to vote for the plaid fabric. Your sofas are great! The plaid is doing the Ralph Lauren thing for me. And looks great with bar stools. PS…don’t like those pillows. The typical shape is not working.. Ask if you can buy the plaid fabric by the yard. Have six lumbars made for the sofas. You need a killer coffee table

Hi everyone and thanks so much for your thoughts. Ingrid, I hear what you are saying but I do think I would like the chairs to have the same fabric. While I much admire rooms with that slightly shabby, mismatched look, I feel like those homes often have great character and interest in them architecturally, so they can pull off that look more easily. My house, while nice and comfortable, doesn't have much in the way of character details, really. So if I tried that look I'm afraid it would fall flat. I've also been trying to keep the chairs from distracting from the bookcases and fireplace, and wonder if having two different fabrics might be a distraction. I appreciate your thoughts about the fabric, too. I will likely keep the herringbone awhile longer. I have about two weeks left before I have to return it. I also got a couple of samples. In looking at these photos, you can see that what looks like a solid green in the photos of the chair as is, that it's also a herringbone too. There just isn't as much contrast so it reads more like a solid. I like all of these too but IRL the herringbone has the softest feel and the nicest texture. Of the other samples, probably the top one is my favorite but wonder if it may be too busy (there will be two chairs) with all the visual clutter that is going on in my bookcases. Shee, you may be right about the camera. But I find the camera sometimes picks up an undertone that I can't see initially, and sometimes that can be a good thing. I think a lot will depend on what kind of accent pillows go on the chairs, too. You all are a great help when making a decision. It makes me weigh my options more objectively, thank you!

In your experience, how does cream/ivory fabric seating wear? Some background: no pets, no kids. I’m looking at a tufted sofa and chair in a creamy fabric. The furniture is of nice mid range quality and made of kiln dried hardwood solids and other durable features (though I’m having trouble finding fabric specifics. I will call the manufacturer Monday to find out about the material used). I know not to sit on it in new blue jeans or anything, but still, I worry about seat marks. I ask because I had a cream fabric office chair (cheap $40 thing) and it developed a grayish area where I sat. But again, it was cheap... so, I imagine quality was not great. There will be some blankets and throw pillows so I think that will help protect it/disguise any marks yes? While I don’t mind taking care with it, I also don’t want to have to stop living my life normally out of fear of dirtying up a silly chair. How ‘livable’ do you think it will be for a not dirty but also not neat freak person?

Jinx seeing the chairs alongside the room really helps...and interestingly, although almost everyone has said black would work no one has gone that route in suggestions, which helps too in a way. I have enough of the raw silk on those chairs by the mirror left to do these chairs, and it has a beautiful sheen that can throw off a bit of purple - but I am concerned about durability (see above) and being too matchy-matchy. I am surprised I also really do like the lighter white look when I see it next to the room, and totally forgot but am finally getting real grown up white silk drapes that will frame out those windows properly instead of sitting inside them - so maybe it would be better to coordinate with those? The fabric is a very subtle cream silk tone-on-tone stripe, but I could match the color with a more durable fabric. This is so much help- thank you all again for your time and suggestions here! I do have one more random question, only because you guys are familiar with the space. I have an old, wooden phone booth that belonged to my dad (he worked for Bell South for 30 years). It it VERY sentimental, it has traveled all over the country with me, and it is going in this space somewhere. It only fits in two places. I had intended to put it where that mermaid picture is, but then I bought that crazy huge carved Mexican bookcase. Is it going to make the room too heavy on that side to have two big, blocky pieces of furniture there? The only other place I have for it is in the entry, which means it would be the first thing you saw when you walked in the room.
