Thank you!! I actually came across someone else who did that, and it looks easy and more attractive than the sparrow spooker. I sat out there all day on Friday, reading a book and watching my kids play. My husband was out there all day on Saturday and we haven't seen that male HOSP since Friday. My first baby hatched yesterday!!! I'm sure the rest have hatched today - it's been raining all day and I haven't gone out to check. I'll go put out some mealworms soon. I was afraid to mess with the box too much, I didn't want to disrupt the babies, so I'll have my husband fashion the fishing line as soon as they're all done. My husbands pellet gun came in the mail today, he's been target practicing all afternoon, he is looking forward to keeping my birds safe (in all actuality, playing with a pellet gun). Well it took till almost 7 PM yesterday, but Mr. HOSP is gone for good!! The horrific thing this year is seeing HOSP travel in small flocks! Never seen it before this year. I put the nest back in. Came home today and found an intact egg! The spooker has gone up! Proud of the bluebirds for not giving up! I got 1 pair incubating 5 eggs, due to hatch May 5-7. With all having spooker, wish me well with these 3 pairs!

I have another box that is empty and one more that has tres. in it. The female blue is building so fast, I think she will have her nest done today. I put a spooker in the tres box because I had a male hosp. trapped in another box and I can't get him out myself...I have to have my husband help me. The damn female hosp. found a new mate in 10 minutes and went after the tres. nest box so I HAD to put a spooker up. It kept the sparrows away. When my husband got home I took care of the hosp and now there is an empty box. I think the dang wrens are after that box. The blues booted them from the one they have now. I don't care if the hosp. and wrens fight over a box. Hopefully she will lay an egg soon so I can get the spooker up.

Just like with the blues, after the first egg, you can put up a spooker. Just watch the box to make sure the parents tolerate it.
