What are these spots on my Easter Lily Cactus?
Comments (2)Did you remove the dirt the plant came in *before* you re-potted? Here is a problem w/c&s: most nurseries use some percentage of peat in their soil mix. When peat gets completely dry, water rolls right off it...it becomes hydrophobic, as they say. Since c&s requires drying between waterings, it is a setup for failure. If your roots are still bundled in this they are probably starving. IMHO, when you purchase a new plant, you *must* remove the nursery soil; gently shake it out, or even wash it off, put it in soil you know is appropriate for it. HTH btw - nice clump. Comments (17)Why thank you, Tiffany. I try very hard to be technical on internet forums. I regularly read three to seven pages out of the dictionary before I initiate any form of online communication. I casually stumbled upon the term 'blue frick' while perusing a very obscure underground scientific database which you've probably never heard of, because it doesn't exist....See MoreWhat's wrong with my Schlumbergera Truncata (Christmas Cactus)
Comments (6)Yes. I am making sure as soon as the soil is dry, (I am using a water meter) I give them a drink. All my pots have holes as to make sure nothing gets root rot. That's why I asked that question a few days ago about when to water. Both top of the soils are dry but when I use the water meter, they are wet near the middle and bottom of pot. I know the cuttings aren't very deep and I should probably keep the top soil moist but the plant is the orchid soil is only about 1/2 inch into the pot. Not in there very deep to avoid the stem rotting out. Love to hear your thoughts. Thank you...See MoreHelp with Easter Cactus Problem
Comments (0)Does anyone know what's wrong with my Easter Cactus? She's very old (at least 40 yrs) and over the past several months has been developing these odd purplish markings on some leaves and then the leaf drops off. Was repotted about a year ago with succulent soil and has good drainage. I'm terrified she's going to die. Attaching a photo of what the leaf looks like when it drops and of the entire plant (front plant in photo). Note it's (baby) sister plant sitting right next to her is doing beautiful and gets the same exact treatment....See MoreKaren S. (7b, NYC)
