Kalanchoe question
Comments (3)Kalanchoe blossfeldiana has habit of growing leggy, so you can end up with long, woody and bare stems. They easily propagate from cuttings and/or leaves. Try to give them as much light as possible, not scorching sun but strong light. Older leaves yellow and dry up. What color were the flowers? Star-shaped? Single or double?...See MoreArrrg! Mealybugs!
Comments (12)Crenda, this is the time of year for infestation. My adenium, fittonia, and schefflera were attacked. The schefflera was the culprit ... it was a gift that arrived with unwanted pests ... scale & God knows what else! Having no insecticidal soap on hand and wanting to act fast, I decided to put an old remedy to the test. I bathed them with water & dishwashing liquid (in a corner of the garden away from other plants). I literally sudsed up every leaf & stem, hand removed any scale, rinsed & re-rinsed with a hose, then sprinkled Bonide systemic on the soil. I watched them carefully for recurrence. Nothing ... nada ... zilch ... there has been NO recurrence, not even on the schefflera. Amen! P.S. Someone warned me about the soap possibly causing leaf burn. It did not. There was no damage to any of the leaves and all the plants look fabulous.....See MoreAnacampseros rufescens propagation help!
Comments (11)Curious how this ended up for you. Considering propagating this plant as well. I know it's a spiller and it's doing just that, but I need to move it to a bigger pot and I'm concerned the middle of the larger pot maybe empty. thinking about trimming some ends and putting them in the middle, I've just never trimmed this plant before. Since I've never cut it, I'm wondering out your cut part ended up. Did it produce new offshoots like other succulents?...See MoreHelp does my Echeveria have root rot?
Comments (4)I’ve had things like this happen to Echeveria. Personally I would cut right under the rosette. It could be perfectly fine and turning the Echeveria into a cutting could be completely unnecessary, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. I’ve had Echeveria get little bits of rot in the stem and go unnoticed until the plant starts falling apart. Plus Echeveria respond well to beheading and it won’t set you back much when it comes to the top growth because it’s the perfect time to behead anyways;). This is of course if you live in the northern hemisphere....See Morerina_Ontario,Canada 5a
