How much matching is required for light fixtures in different rooms?
Comments (12)amber- I know I could wait to decide on all 3 light fixtures, but I really want to coordinate them now or it could end up being 10 years before I do anything. We are changing furniture, painting and remodeling, so I want to strike now while I'm doing everything or I will never do it. Here are 3 lights I like. Do they work well together? Which should go where? I'm thinking starburst in DR, spiral one entryway and the other one on stairs. Door hardware is orb but being changed to matte black. Kitchen will be white/black/gray with stainless and chrome. Kitchen is not open to DR but the light can be seen from the glass door that separates them. If any of these fixtures look terrible together, please be honest....See MoreBookcases: match room or match furniture?
Comments (8)Thanks for the input! I think I'm afraid to commit to permanent placement of things which is why I'm looking at individual bookcases instead of builtins. :) Paint has certainly been considered--especially when I was thinking I could make IKEA work--but aside from yellow walls and a white ceiling, there's no paint to match. I'd rather stick to a wood finish so that in the future I can shuffle the bookcases around...split up the set and stick them in the kids' bedrooms, whatever. I do like those green bookcases though! But I'm looking for something simpler and midcentury-inspired and I'm not sure that would work as well with paint as a traditionally detailed bookcase. I don't think the cherry would darken the room much (maybe all the junk/books inside would, though). I'm looking at unstained cherry which darkens into a medium light orange tone. This is in a low ranch house with 8 ft ceilings and I don't think bookcases can be tall enough to be oppressive in there. But it sounds like dark wood is out!...See MoreToo much furniture! Help me arrange my living room please?
Comments (9)Holy moly, so many great ideas and feedback here. Thank you all so much! And boo - I spent a lot of time trying to decide on window coverings for those weird skinny windows, LOL. As least they're cheap JC Penney shades and won't hurt too badly when I replace them. I like the dark wood trim and didn't want to cover it up, so that's why I chose those and not curtains. But I heard everyone loud and clear. ;) Storage definitely is an issue with this house - there's exactly none. All the storage space was sacrificed for a big open feel, and even the closets are postage-stamp size. Thus the big old coffee table thing (storage!) and the entertainment center (storage!) and the end table (you guessed it, STORAGE!). I love the Besta idea, though! Didn't even know something that cool existed. I am worried that placing the main seating against the half-wall will put the seated person too far from the TV; I do a lot of gaming so I tend to sit closer for full immersion. I was considering moving the seating way closer to the TV, which would create a big space by the half wall, and then putting a narrow table or something back there, i don't know. I'm so terrible at this stuff, that's why I'm so glad Houzz is a thing! A sectional, huh? How does one find a sectional that doesn't scream 80's media room? Off to google I go... :)...See MoreOptions on how to arrange furniture in formal living room!
Comments (56)Hi! Were you able to try the sofa facing the fireplace? It has beautiful styling and would look good from all angles....and with the rest of your nice things it could be a great conversation grouping. I am also really interested in seeing your art!...See More- 7 years ago
