This is also a picture of a picture, Caravaggio's Supper at Emmaus at the National Gallery of Art in London. I had heard about the importance of this painting during History of European Art class and was thrilled to see it in "real life."

The minister had that Caravaggio's "Supper at Emmaus" on the screen during part of the sermon, this morning. I don't remember ever having seen it before.

I noted to some after church that, while the walking and talking in the afternoon may have had some influence, it took his action to wake those guys up.

It seems that there, too - actions speak louder than words.

Caravaggio was noted for using models from everyday life, or even those from lower echelons of society, rather than the wealthy or well-positioned as many other artists did. According to Wikipedia, this painting depicts the moment that the resurrected but incognito Jesus reveals himself to two of his disciples. It is a recurring theme in Caravaggio's paintings to find the sublime interrupting the daily routine. The artist seems to suggest that perhaps a Jesus could enter our daily encounters. We put up new lights in the atrium and it's all freshly painted in my new colors. I have been sitting in the rocking chair being happy.

My plants are in need of water. They have been bunched up while the painters were working.
