Comments (6)Hi Orchidguy Sorry it has been so long since you asked me: what size are the flowers? Flowers were about 4in across. how tall is the plant. I would think they grow up to 2ft stems. I pot mine in sphasnum in clay pots and water every other day during the growing period, where are you at? I have to say as I did not know what they were, I just mixed up a concoction, split the plant into 3x sections and planted them up. I live in Auckland. New Zealand. It flowered in December. It looks like it flowers on stems that are 2x years old, then those stems die. I must say going back and looking at the pix of plant, they have done exceptionally well, as I have only just had these a year, now. when I lived in PA, I grew them in osmunda fiber in pastic...See MoreWhat is your favorite tropical/unusual plant?
Comments (38)Ficus are a long-time favorite of mine. I have successfully germinated nine Ficus religiosa seeds and am loving watching them grow!! A stunning plant with an amazing history. I also enjoy the many, many cultivars of Ficus benjamina. Philodendrons are also a favorite (hence my user name). None specific, I love all of them - vining, self-heading. Still have lots on my wanted list, but I need a bigger house first!! For the great outdoors here in Missouri, coleus are amazing. So many colors and patterns. Can anyone not love them?...See MoreWhat's you most unusual plant that you grow???
Comments (6)Hi to all 3 of you, and thanks for the replies!!! Garden Nerd, never heard of the plant you grow so had to do a Google to see what it was. GreenLarry, hi there, think I recognise you from the EPS forum?? Coincidentally, we too have lost 2 greenhouses over the past few years during winter storms...very annoying to say the least and expensive in both cost and man (& woman!! ) hours to replace. Last time it was a 2yr old 16 x8 that was trashed so we decided enough was enough took the aluminium to the scrap yard to get back what we could for it. We re-used the toughened glass as we salvaged all but a couple of panes and went for a DIY wooden one attached to the side of the garage block. The wood cost a fiver, we already had the concrete blocks spare and spent a few £££'s on wood stain/screws/bolts etc. It hasn't moved so far!!!...See MoreMy unusual orchid from bud to flower progression!
Comments (13)Blutayle, nothing special. I have heard they need a dry rest to bloom so I just water less in winter, but it's kept in a greenhouse and one in a sunny window inside. Then once outside, I still water it like all my other plants and that's it) I tried that rest and very dry period with one of mine and it desicated and died. No more of that. I water often in summer and fall, and less often in winter and spring....See Moreshavedmonkey (Harvey in South Fl.)Z10b
