what's wrong with my sweet potato vine??
Comments (5)Looks like leaf stress disorder. That often happens to plants if some environmental condition changes in the extreme when the leaf is about to emerge - eg., suddenly too much or too little water or a big temperature swing from hot to cold or vice versa. Usually it only happens to those leaves that were about to emerge and assuming the conditions settle down, additional new leaves will be fine....See MorePlease help! Comments (5)gee looks like early blight to me on those spuds, my experience is no amount of copper sulfate or other nasty chemicals will help the spuds now. we get this problem here on the wet coast and planting very early and harvest early is the best strategy,,,,, as for the tomatoes, they have to be kept out of the rain here, we have lots of heat units but we have to keep those tomato leaves dry. my guess is the tomato plants will out grow this as your summer arrives, i often snip off and destroy infected leaves, ofcourse some varieties have more resistance,,,, if your spuds die down, enjoy those early nugget potatoes, mmmmmmm...See MoreWhat's wrong with my potatoes?

Comments (5)Ok, OP should have asked WHY these symptoms appear in his/her harvested sweets. And I'm wondering if the problem is cultural or storage related. Hope more experienced gardeners will give their thoughts. I take it that the OP had previous success with sweets [both growing and storing]. I also take it that since you're asking, you have not identified any glaring differences in weather or harvest or culture, so it is a puzzle. Were the vines vigorous? Were they grown in the same ground as other years? How did you ammend/prep the planting area? Last year was my first time to grow sweets and I had a huge 'crop'. Gave most away and ate the others before any problems appeared. This year my vines are staying small ... don't know why ... cool summer,maybe....See More- 7 years ago
