Log house living = LOTS of wood... living room area rug help please!
Comments (11)I have lived in 2 log homes. I understand your problem! Do you have any interior stonework also? Last time I was in this position, I tried to pull the base color of the rug from the lightest tone in the stone on my fireplace, so that I didn't end up with too much going on. Jewel tones do seem to work well, also. I like the last 3 you posted in the comments. It is really hard to pick unless you can see the rugs in person, too. I ended up ordering my last rug through a local furniture store, where I could see and feel samples. They ended up being very competitive on price. I tried ordering online first, and the colors always seemed a little "off" once I got them rolled out in my wood-everywhere house....See MoreFurniture Layout Suggestion for Living Room
Comments (7)Hello! I can see how this would feel like a somewhat tricky space. I don't know how many people you're hoping to seat or how you'll use the space, so this may not be the best suggestion for your needs. Have you thought about doing two sofas facing each other with a coffee table in the middle? On the fireplace you could install an adjustable TV mount to tip it in whichever direction you needed for watching. Along one of the walls you could put a console table with decor if you like! Just a thought!...See MoreFormal Living Room/Sitting Room Area Layout
Comments (5)Oh lucky you! I would LOVE a separate living room. Consider how you want to use the space. Preferably, something other than "a pretty place for people to see when they walk in before they go to the family room." While that's fine if that's what you really want it to be, it has become the reason people are (unfortunately, in my view) eliminating "formal" living rooms in new homes. It's SO nice to have an away room, which this could be for you. So, conversation? Reading? Any musicians in your family? How about board games? In my house this would be the reading/conversation/music room, so I would furnish it with 4 comfy chairs in a circle with a center table, maybe a bookshelf or two and a piano. What you do with it depends on the space you have....See MoreLayout and furniture suggestions for small living room
Comments (4)I'd go for lighter tones as well as less bulky -- if the carpet will stay, then you might look for non-brown for at least some accent chairs. Your space feels tight currently, and I think that would be helped by having a single couch and a couple of chairs -- it also gives you more flexibility in getting a conversational arrangement. Two thoughts just to throw out there: (1) Sometimes people like to put a couch with its back to the walkway, to separate the sitting area from the entrance a bit. Your room isn't open to the next space, so it may not feel as necessary, but an option. (2) Sorry, husband, but that TV is mounted too high. It needs to be at eye level for the people sitting on the couches, which means it's a foot or two higher than ideal -- better moving the mount than paying for all the chiropraxy later. :)...See MoreBilly
