Need your creative idea for window boxes, please...
Comments (4)I knew you'd come up with great ideas! I've seen a picture with one made from a shutter but had forgot about it. Like the idea about bicycle baskets and old tool boxes and chalk board paint. A little town near me is having their "town yard sale" this Saturday and boy is it always big, big, big. Found lots of treasures last year. Thanks for your replies and ideas!...See MoreLOOKING for: Looking for some creative ideas (bakesale)
Comments (10)LEMON TORTE Cake layers: 1 cup butter 2 cups sugar 3 cups flour 2 TBL baking powder 1 cup milk 8 egg whites Filling: 2 cups powdered sugar 8 egg yolks 1 TBL butter Grated zest of 1 lemon Juice of 2 lemons For the cake layers: Cream butter & sugar until light & fluffy. Sift together flour & baking powder & add to butter mixture alternately w/milk. Beat egg whites until stiff; fold into mixture. Grease three 9" cake pans & divide the mixture evenly between them. Bake in a preheated 350° oven for 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool layers. For the filling: combine all filling ingredients in the top of a double boiler & heat over boiling water, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat, cool & spread between layers. Frost top & sides w/White Icing, if desired.~~ Food for Thought White Icing 1 3/4 cups sugar 2 egg whites 1 TBL light corn syrup 1 tsp vanilla 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup chopped marshmallows Beat first 5 ingredients at high speed for 1-2 minutes. Comments (8)Why not a shade sail with a gauzy fabric that would be rolled up most of the time but could be unrolled and tied down when you will be out? In my experience, the problem with temporary gazebos is that they fall apart in the wind. You would have a secondary issue that the shade sail is not engineered to hold the weight of the screen plus the wind the screen walls catch, so it would have to be a light fabric whatever you use (and again, I would suggest something you can roll up). I am going to be adding some cheesecloth-like fabric (not sure what I will use yet, maybe even old lace curtains, thinking "shabby chic") to my victorian kitchen porch so we can sit on it-it will add shade and bug protection. But I will do it so that I can roll it up into the roof if the wind is bad. We had one of those $300 gazebos (I think it was 10x10 or 12x12 when we lived in Illinois and it barely lasted the season before the wind sheared it. I think it was aluminum. Also, have you looked into solar fan options?...See MoreLooking for creative ideas on how to finish out hood vent.
Comments (13)Renofan, that is Daisy dog in the crate. I'll check over on conversations, it's been so busy around here I haven't had much computer time lately, I'm very sorry I didn't answer before now! Thanks so much for all of the terrific ideas so far! You guys are giving me tons to think about. The body part of the hood is a satin finished stainless, the egdes are mirror finish stainless. As far as age or era of the kitchen, there really isn't one, it's just a collected over time, what makes me happy look. The stove is from 1948, I've had it in storage for over two years waiting for the new kitchen, the hoosier is dated 1939, the beadboard while not original belongs in the house. Our home ( circa 1910) at one point was totally clad in beadboard on the inside, we found all sorts of pieces of it buried in the walls as we've been renovating, this was fairly common in older southern homes. I'm not really going for a era though as much as a feel .. happy, eclectic, cottage, unexpected, a blend of new and old. I know a lot of people like to recreate their kitchen to the time their house was built. I kind of look at it as houses evolve over time, things get replaced and houses aquire a collected over time look....See Moremiss lindsey (She/Her)
