Thermador Fridge Question - Antss? Anyone?
Comments (18)Are the 48" still being made by KA? When we were looking, I heard from a BSH rep that they would probably be changing that after the Freedom series came out. As to the pros and cons between them, The pros of the 48" model would be a better price and slightly higher cubic footage. The pros of the columns are that you have flexibility in choosing either 24/24 or 30/18, the look is sleeker with no grill showing, the compressor is located at the bottom and the drawers and shelves are elevated (major plus on the bottom drawer in my book). The lighting may be a bit brighter, you get full extension glides on all the drawers so everything is visible and accessible. There are 2 separate compressors (they are variable speed and energy star rated -- not sure about the 48") and there is no air exchange between the fridge and freezer -- no garlic in your ice, etc. and at least theoretically speaking better temp control (no freezing things in the fridge) -- haven't had a 48" so I can't say from experience. I have the columns and love them. Before they came out, I told a BSH rep I wasn't even interested in looking at them since I would have to buy two units, pay more, lose space with the two walls in the middle -- just didn't make sense. They got the last laugh, but I love them enough not to care. I'd have probably been happy with the 48" one we'd picked out too (the Thermador made by KA)....See Morehelp with 36inch custom panel refrigerator
Comments (13)Hi chrystalsw! Two things: 1) You might want to check out the GE Monogram line 2) I found one on craigslist and I love it Not sure what your budget is, but there are always lovely built-ins on my local craigslist for anywhere from 450-2000 for the really huge, integrated ones. Of course, practice safety when arranging to go look at anything and always ask them to plug it in ahead of time, so it's fully fired-up when you get there, and always trust your instincts (buyer beware sort of thing). I bought a two year old, GE Monogram 36" bottom freezer built-in I found on craigslist. I LOVE it for our teeny galley kitchen. I got it for $400.00 because the people who just bought their house were totally changing the kitchen and had to get rid of everything, so I admit I got a smokin' deal. It works perfectly and the panels on it are the same shape as my cabinet doors and I will be painting everything to match. But for that bargain I would have purchased new panels :) Delivery cost me $175 but I had to call around because a lot of small movers couldn't safely accommodate the 85" height. I tipped the guys and the whole thing came out to $625, not including the pending paint job. Mine doesn't have the ugly handles that are in the link pics, more like a stainless spine sort of thing that runs down the side to slip your hand in to pull it open. Here is a link that might be useful: GE Monogram...See MoreThermador Column Custom Panels
Comments (9)I think this has to do with how you designed the side panels around the refrigerator. I have Thermador Freedom column 36 inch with bottom freezer. Like marcydc, the side panels on my refrigrerator is flush with the front of the door, not the back body of the refrigerator. You also have a top spacer for the refrigerator. I don't quite understand what that is. The Freedom columns do not have a panel at the top. The air grills are at the bottom that gets covered with matching toe kick. Do you by chance have their "built-in" line with the grill at the top? They are NOT integrated refrigerators.... They are built in refrigerators. They will NOT look completely flush. If you look at the web site, pulled out side panel, ie macydc's installation is how the refrigeator is installed on the Thermador web site....See MoreSub zero or thermador fridge?
Comments (36)I am happy with it. And I think that I do see it keeping food fresh a bit longer now. Be prepared for less depth, but that's not a huge problem for us. We have a small full depth fridge in the basement if we really need to fit that huge pan or pizza box. Makes lots of good tasting ice. Freezer storage is adequate, but I do use the freezer in the secondary fridge, too and so it's perfect for us. It feels really well made especially compared to some of the new fridges my friends and family have recently purchased. If you can feel enjoyment when using an appliance, I think I do with this one lol. All in all I'd buy it again. Good luck....See Moreangelafox79
