Help! I can't seem to make a decision.
Comments (5)How much do you cook? How much do you bake? How much do you use ovens in general? Have you ever used a "convection microwave?" Have you ever used a speed oven? The decision between the Advantium and MW seems like the biggest difference to me. I don't have a lot of experience with convection microwaves other than everyone I've ever known who thought one would be like a real oven was severely disappointed. That isn't recent experience though. The local gals are all set against them, but they might have improved hugely since. The Advantium does seem to oven like a real oven in oven mode, though I haven't used mine for a lot of different things yet. Mostly for heating. I don't know how it bakes--the Miele speed oven is supposed to do that better. For faster cooking than a microwave can do, but so that it still tastes cooked rather than zapped and browned, speed cooking in the Advantium should be superior to what the convection microwave can do, but, again, I haven't compared personally. The best way to choose the fridge you want is to look inside them and imagine your food and containers in it, and see which one fits your way of thinking best. Does it hold your tall bottles where you want them? Your big jugs? Your little jars? Your big trays? Are the drawers big enough? Are they easy to get into? Can you reach the top shelf easily? Is it easy to see to the back? Ovens are harder to get accurate info on. You can like the controls, features, racks, etc., but that doesn't tell you about performance. If you make a turkey once a year, and bake up the fundraiser cookie dough, it doesn't matter. If you're a serious baker it matters a lot and you need to do some more research. There are pluses and minuses to any dishwasher, but most of them work pretty well if you use the recommended detergents, et al....See MoreHELP!! I can't make paint color decision!
Comments (141)Amberley- We are going for an unfitted look in our kitchen and have had a pine work island table an 2 jam cupboards custom made and because of budget the rest of the cupboards will be Ikea Tidaholm. We're doing alot of customizing ourselves so although they might not be our first choice in doors they are a simple shaker that we think will blend in well with our other period pieces. I would really like to have the doors sprayed but cannot find a single place in Toronto who will spray them in F&B. Most places like to use their own brand. I know you can't color match BM to F&B and thats why I don't want to waste Old White on the cupboards. I thought it would be easier to pull off a cream/off white color in BM and use Old White on the walls. We're putting on a fairly large addition and doing all our own work so having someone else paint the cupboards is a gift we decided to give ourselves.I guess the other alternative is to break down and just do it.The problem with that is that they have to be sanded as well, my least favorite job, I think I recall that you were going to go with Ikea doors as well or order from Shers(spelling?) Did you paint your own and if so what kind of a finish did you get? Your kitchen is going to be gorgeous and your house looks beautiful as well. It's old is is not? Theres nothing like old American Architecture....See MoreI can't make a danged decision!!!!!
Comments (17)Blue...that might make sense LOL But actually I have a better idea...he's golfing for two days with his buds and they all tend to have a VERY good time on the course...I think I'll take him shopping after the round tomorrow afternoon while he's still happy LMAO Ok not really. I'm almost ready to wrap my mind around the red working if I can do the wall in a deep brown. I'm going to talk to the artist today and get him to work on that...and then worst case...they don't work...we can put them in the rental and buy tobacco brown sofa's (as I'd originally planned in that room so many years ago). It's kind of a safari/deco theme (gad does that sound scary as heck or what?) No wonder people look at me with funny faces when I talk design heh heh We have these huge (like five foot tall) pictures of lions and cheeta's framed that will hang in that room (I'm not into dead animals unless they're for dinner) so I'd always planned it to be a bit "old british library" in tone. But with an art deco sort of richness... Ok forget it...I'll post pics when it's done LOL cuz it sounds like it's been decorated on crack...and really I only do legal drugs :oP...See MoreHave to make a hood decision quick and I'm woefully uninformed...
Comments (18)You have the same model Berta I had. It's fairly modern and I think it's a whole different style from the Heritage hood you've shown. Must say, I agree with the salesman on that. But, it depends on how you want to style the kitchen. Once you speak to the contractor you'll know if you need anything special with the hood. I'd pay attention to duct diameter -- how big can you go for your run? Then check against the hood candidates since diameters vary with the brands. It looks like you're basically shopping for a 48" or 54" hood. With the griddle on the end (vs a center placement) extra capture might be a good idea. Here's a link to ABT's hood list . They're pretty reliable and have the major things. If you're looking for a chimney style hood, like the Berta pic you posted, it should be possible too see what a big range of manufacturers has in the size and style you need and compare prices to what you were quoted. Best by Broan also has a visualizer for their hood that may be useful. I know this takes so much time but it's the only way I've found to be sure about decisions. Perhaps others have different suggestions. Hope it won't be too exhausting and it can be jump-started from there....See MoreRelated Professionals
