Question is... can a man love his red sofa more then his wife?? :-)

We're most likely to buy another house out of state and move into that (DS and I) but we'll keep this house and live here as well in the healthy months Mary. We won't know about that until October/November. One of the reason's we haven't purchased the houses (in Port Townsend or Duluth) is because we don't know how his health will effect the place we buy (PT has a lower cold and flu season than Duluth but he might be so sick that does not matter...in which case we stay here and still buy a vacation home in PT but if he's not as sick...we buy one of those....LOL Ok it's complicated but we're keeping this house as well)

I slept on it last night (the decision not the couch) and have decided to do the wall the way I want....and let him decide we need to change the sofas (he brought it up anyhoo) lol They actually might still work...I'm going to have the wall done with the feel of a Charles MacKintosh room (if you don't know Charles Mackintosh, he's a designer from the turn of the century and I adore his work) and see how it turns out. From 1980's townhouse...to Mackintosh Scotland...we'll see how it goes.

I get to see the granite go in the kitchen today...then they'll template the master bathroom (oh DS's will be done today as well) and the onyx for the headboard in the master bedroom (I was going to get onyx somehow in this house LOL) I'm up early drawing designs for the backsplash in the master...I sort of forgot until midnight last night when I woke up and sat up in bed and said "Chit" (using a different version of the word). DH thought I was nuts (ok he's right)

So I can finally post progress pics :) That feel like progress!!!

igloo - you have such great taste and with your wonderful sort of eclectic (I don't like that word, but best I guess to describe what I mean) kitchen who knows the couches might still work.

Any updated pics of your kitchen?

I'll post them today or tomorrow lyfia (I have had a crazy busy schedule for the last week and a half!!) Today begins at 9:30 (ok it began at 5 but I have to be elsewhere by then...which means no jammies) for templating, 11:00 with the artist (I can't wait to post picks of his sample boards...SO RICH!!! and he's not killer expensive...not cheap mind you...but not ten grand a room like I was quoted a year ago). Then I have to go find a couple new outfits to wear to two fancy dinners since we're hosting a big shin dig at the club (an after tournament golf party day one...bleh...hundreds of people LOL) and the gold dinner day two (we just go...and don't host thank god) and if we're not bankrupt after that, I have to order a bunch of furniture, new lighting for DS's room (if I don't get it right soon...DH will actually kill me) and umm there should be a nap in there somewhere...

I'm resorting to micromanaging the construction site 24/7 which is tiring, but will get the house done since folks know they will be noticed if they don't show up I guess. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have toilets and faucets...heck I could pee and wash my hands in the same room maybe....gad what a miracle of modern man!!!

No wonder why you can't make a d(er)anged decision -- you're too tired! Whatever you decide about the sofa needs to be done with DH over a bottle of wine or two (and candlelight, and DS safely in bed, etc). Sometimes men get sentimental about their favorite sofas or chairs.

Blue...that might make sense LOL But actually I have a better idea...he's golfing for two days with his buds and they all tend to have a VERY good time on the course...I think I'll take him shopping after the round tomorrow afternoon while he's still happy LMAO

Ok not really. I'm almost ready to wrap my mind around the red working if I can do the wall in a deep brown. I'm going to talk to the artist today and get him to work on that...and then worst case...they don't work...we can put them in the rental and buy tobacco brown sofa's (as I'd originally planned in that room so many years ago). It's kind of a safari/deco theme (gad does that sound scary as heck or what?) No wonder people look at me with funny faces when I talk design heh heh

We have these huge (like five foot tall) pictures of lions and cheeta's framed that will hang in that room (I'm not into dead animals unless they're for dinner) so I'd always planned it to be a bit "old british library" in tone. But with an art deco sort of richness...
Ok forget it...I'll post pics when it's done LOL cuz it sounds like it's been decorated on crack...and really I only do legal drugs :oP

i love charles rennie mckintosh and the whole arts and crafts movement, and i also love art deco. i'm not a huge fan of the whole 'tuscan' design thing that's going on (unless it's in tuscany).

but....i don't see all three of those styles working together very well in one home. too many strong style elements too close together. i've seen homes that have each room done in a different distinct style and i find it very disjointed and unharmonious-feeling.

oh, and *do not* mess with a man's couch. especially when there's scads of money being spent on remodeling that he may/may not even care much about. especially if it's his comfortable tv-watching couch.

Ed I just knew there was something about you I loved! You know Mr. Mackintosh :) I will someday own a chair...this is my one quest in life I haven't acheived (ok the only big money one) but I will one day own a piece of his furniture.

My house does sound disjointed, but I promise you...it's not...in fact that's the issue with this one room...I need to soften the deco/arts and crafts feel so it flows, but not loose it all together. The kitchen is only tuscan in color...not in design, but it's hard to explain what the design is since it's basically eclectic with a chicken LMAO is that a design style? I specifically wanted a style in there that was not modern and not old and not tuscan and not art deco, but there are elements of each (I have fabulous art deco lighting for the kitchen). ANyhoo, I'll be nice to his couch, but fortunately for me, he has fab design sense as well...so he'll see the need to make the change...and we'll both be happy :o) Dang it we will LOL

Dawn - you just need to create a new style to describe it - How about igloo style, then there is no confusion ;)

of course! his designs are still major elements of arts and crafts design. it's classic stuff.

we had some custom linen and embroidery curtain panels made for the dining room of our last house (a certified historic chicago bungalow) and we worked off of a great mckintosh flower and leaf motif. they came out really nice.

Igloo, go on over to the pet forum. Lots of kitties, doing their business outside the litter box and puppies people can't housebreak. There that takes care of the couch!!!
Without doubt there is no way DH would consider divorcing you with the determination, energy and sense of humor you possess.
I am even sure you could pull off "the jammies" at a templating too.

You know, I could actually see a clean-lined modern red couch working with a MacKintosh vibe -- and a bit of 'jungle safari' might be just the thing to tie it all together.

And yes, I am serious! But then, in our old Dallas house, I had a dead coyote skin draped over the back of an antique French chair upholstered in (what else?) an antique Japanese obi. It worked, in a Texas sorta way!

You know Sweeby, most people try really hard to keep the dog hair off the antiques. :-) (I couldn't resist!)

But I'll trade you the modern red couch for my behemouth traditional brown leather monster. It's too nice (and comfortable) to get rid of, but it is so not my style any more.

Our red couch mimics a sofa I saw in an art deco hotel..it's just the red that takes it one step over the top. It's a natuzzi Osaka (we have two) and it's rather massive. I love the room with the sofas...but they're big.

We're going to do the walls in a distressed brown (copying a mackintosh dinning room just as inspiration). We'll just see how the sofa's work...but DH (fortunately) is a great guy for color and form...if they don't work...he'll fold as long as he gets to pick out the next. It's kind of a transitional room...and the red is too hard of a transition in my mind from the rest of the finished house (because as Ed mentioned...I hate to see one room X and one room Y...they have to flow). Anyhoo...we'll see.
