Help decorating around a glass countertop

I'd like to do some small updates in our upstairs hall (kids) bathroom. The previous owners installed a glass countertop and modern hardware, despite the house being a standard Colonial. How can I do some minor updates, such as new paint, hardware, mirror, lighting, that is more traditional/transitional without replacing the countertop? Would adding more traditional hardware look weird with it? I hate it, but I don't want to spend the money there right now.

Also, there is roughly 40" from the bottom of the window to the floor--is that enough space to hang hooks for bath towels, assuming we move over the TP holder?
