I am the Queen of Half measures and my garden is full of half done burst of energy.. I left a pile of trimmed of agave leaves in a pile in a path, just waiting to strike the un aware. This is a cautionary tale to croc wearers for crocs are a croc at protecting your feet from succulent peculiarities. Yea, I got the terminal spine in my toe. 1/3" was removed with pin and surgical tweezers. . I have been walking around for a while accumulating broken cactus needles in the sole. Every once and awhile, I will step wrong on a log and one's presence will make itself known to rather unpleasantly to the sole of my foot. I should throw them out but I am a creature of habit and they are so comfortable...most of the time. easy go hose off and I picked them up at salvation army for a song.
Note don't ever leave even a fragment of a yucca or agave plant in your body. The alkaloids will do a really unpleasant number on you. I saw it in a friend , not me . Thank god.

Comments (31)I had to tippy toe around some seedlings today to prune back an aggressive dogwood bush. I was in bare feet..I find I'm much less likely to step on something, and I was in my "best" i.e. well groomed bed. I use the closed toe crocs (no holes) most of the time, keeps the dirt out. I bought a dollar store spin toothbrush, and used it for my home-grown pedicure. Amazing how it cleaned up under the nails and the cuticles. (I also didn't have to reach so far down ;o)..amazing how your feet get further away from your hands as you age!). Just be sure to pack the brush away with the nail polish & pumice stone! Comments (64)slahgirl, Crocs are not a bandwagon "fad". They are sensible shoes with an intense following. People said the same about Earth shoes way back in the 70's. I still buy and wear them today, and they have a very loyal following with many. Sure they are not for everybody and they are not for wearing for all occassions. (Although my friend Kay joked about wearing the white Crocs under her wedding dress so her feet won't hurt from standing all day.) As far as leaving smudgy footprints inside of the shoes goes, I've seen that with many brands of shoes and is not indicitive of Crocs, but of sloppy hygiene and inattentive maintanance of the shoes by the wearer....See MoreDo you think expensive watches are worth the price?
Comments (50)As has been said more eloquently already, everything is relative. Not everyone here at the Table is in the same income bracket; and not everyone that is in the same income bracket has the same recurring expenses -- for example, hubs and I don't have any kids, grandkids, or pets, so we have more disposable income than folks with the same income level with kids/grandkids/pets. If someone with less disposable income is frugal and sets aside money to buy something "expensive" why shouldn't he/she treat themselves to it? I'm going to be buying a new car within the next couple of months. Hubs has me deciding between a Mercedes C300, Lexus ES350, and a BMW 325i. I said that perhaps I didn't really need one of those three, and that I'd price out a Toyota Avalon (because I have always loved my Camry). Well, imagine my surprise when the Avalon priced out more than $2,000 higher than the Lexus. So, why should I not buy a Lexus just because some folks see it as an "overpiced Toyota with a superiority complex" when it's less expensive than a Toyota? As far as watches are concerned, yeah, I wear what some would consider an expensive watch (msrp is about $3,000). Not as expensive as a Rolex, though. It's a Tag Heuer, from the Link line: It's (in my opinion, anyway) not "flashy" or "attention getting." Hardly anyone realizes that it's a Tag Heuer - most folks think it's a Seiko! But this is the watch that I wanted because I like the quality of workmanship that goes into a Tag, and, most importantly, I like the looks of it. I also wear, right next to the watch, a diamond tennis bracelet that's over 5.5 carats. Retail price now would be somewhere between $20K to $25K. But it was a gift to me from my brother, and he paid significantly less than that to have it custom made for me 15 years ago (I have a brother-in-law who is a Certified Master Bench Jeweler). Comments (9)Ouch! All better now it sounds like. I get mulch splinters through mine occasionally so know what you mean about the lack of protection! I can also attest to the inflammation caused by a yucca prick, even when nothing remains inside the wound, it leaves a painful and swollen bump for days.
