Looks like annual blue grass - a weed.

Thank you for your response. It spawned a search, and I'm nearly certain it's a maple tree sprout. I have thousands of them.

Crabgrass, and every other weed, adores the wet but hot conditions! Weed B Gon with Crabgrass Control will take it out, but it may require two applications to remove all the mature crabgrass. Some more will sprout even after that, which you can spot spray if you want. Fortunately, it dies at frost, so by Hallowe'en it should be on its way out. Next spring, you can apply Dimension 0-0-7 in April when the forsythia in the area bloom (that first touch of yellow is the indicator that the soil temperatures are rising over 50). That will provide some months of protection from crabgrass--how long depending on what level you apply it at. Personally, I use Prodiamine (Barricade), but both are very effective on crabgrass sprouts. That'll stop about 90-95% of the crabgrass from sprouting and you can spot spray the ones that do manage to grow.

Too much water is the cause. No, you can't really dig it out because the roots are finer than hair. Most of the plants are connected underground too. You need to use a sedge herbicide because the active ingredient will transfer through the roots to the surrounding plants & kill the group. Roundup & other herbicides will only kill the top & the sedge will be back in a few days. Sedge ender by Bonide shows results in about 24 hours, same for ortho nutsedge killer. Sedgehammer & image take a few days, but they do also work. Sedge ender is my go-to because it also works on crabgrass with a pre emergent. Happy hunting!
