Walk-in pantry has door activated light
Comments (23)We've had two motion detectors in our laundry area in the basement and both have stopped working after about a year or so of use. I don't know why, I just know that the last one stopped working at night when I had no light at all in the laundry area and boy was I irritated! I had to go upstairs to get a flashlight and then get on a chair to take the motion activation insert out of the socket & replace it w/a bulb b/f I could get any light in the area! I hope the door-activated idea works for you. Right now I plan to have a regular switch...we haven't had problems in the past w/the pantry light being left on so I doubt it will start to be a problem now. If the door activated switch dies, is there an easy way to convert it to a regular switch and/or get to it to fix or replace it?...See MoreSpice up 24" wide walk-in pantry door? Chalkboard?
Comments (3)Get a plain cheap slab door instead of the fancy door. There will be plenty of room for a chalkboard on a 24" slab door, and it will only cost you $20 maybe. It will have the same "frame" effect if you have white woodwork, as the white woodwork will surround the black door....See MoreHidden Pantry door inswing design help needed
Comments (8)It looks to me that the face frame on that cabinet covers the hinges so when it's closed, you can't tell it's a door. It just looks like the lower cabinets are inset like the other cabinets in the kitchen. I do wonder how they pull the door closed. You could always contact Farinelli Construction and ask them....See MoreDoor to garage through hidden walk-in pantry?
Comments (9)Very nice idea at first thought BUT I see a several drawbacks. ONE, I would not want the dirt and dust from the garage being tracked through the pantry where all my food is stored. TWO, when you bring in your bags from the grocery you need a "landing area" to put them down to unpack them, so unless that pantry is big enough to allow for clear counter space to do that your idea would not work so well. THIRD, not all the items you bring home from the store are going in the pantry, some items are going to the refrigerator or freezer and cleaning supplies may go under the sink, toilet paper and other supplies may need go to the bathroom, etc. FOURTH, there are many more reasons to go between the garage and the house than unloading groceries. I would not want to track through the pantry for all those other times....See Morepalimpsest
