Need help with house sign and curb appeal after patio upgrade
Comments (3)I don't think that the person who posted it needs help anymore because it's been 2 years already. But maybe there will be people who are searching for some house number signs. I moved into my new house last month and I was asking all of my friends and family to recommend me a good company that makes good quality signs. There were plenty of ideas, but the one which I liked the most was baliandboo.com. I ordered my house sign from them and it arrived very quickly, and I'm very pleased with it....See MoreHow can i bring curb appeal to this older green house?
Comments (20)As you rethink your landscaping, consider what changes you'd make to the house itself IF and when your budget permits so your landscaping (because of what you spent on it making you reluctant to change it) might block some change you may want to make later. If you're not planning to add to the front of your home, choose shurbs that thrive in your area and keep their leaves year round. (In Zone 7, I'd suggest aucuba.) If you're even considering changing that front "half gable" into a wider full gable in order to have your door in the front exterior wall rather than opening toward the side of the home and/or if you're even considering building a front porch, make your new sidewalk from your front steps lead away from the house far enough before turning toward your driveway to do that. Planter box with trellis could be placed to hide any discoloration of your siding....See MoreRanch House or MCM? Facade needs help to improve curb appeal
Comments (22)thanks! kendallinsd I think those window changes to the bedrooms would make a big difference to the curb appeal. by the way, I am not against painting brick. if done right, it will be fine. however, yours is a nice muted reddish tone. I think what's not working is that there's too much contrast between the brick and siding, breaking up the shapes. the mockups houssaon and I did for you look better because it gives your house a more cohesive look. I also encourage keeping (or restoring) that pergola. again, it's part of the midcentury shape of that house that makes it special. but like I suggested before, a wood pillar might look better there. have fun. post pics as you improve this adorable home!...See MorePLEASE HELP!! Comments (7)Thank you so much for your reply, 3onthetree. You are spot-on, it was a rancher. The original slab foundation is intact or was improved upon. The build-up is entirely new. You are absolutely correct about the lights from the cars at night. I've added a "wet and paste" film that blocks some of the light, gives privacy and sends off a nice kaleidoscope of sorts. Haha, I've also told my husband I would NEVER live at a junction. This one isn't too bad because the street leading up to the "T" is on a very steep incline and a little ways away from the home. Maybe the old rusty lawn would come in handy as it would most likely slow down any runaway car due to its poor nature. I don't mind being so open and front-facing. I like that because it gives an airy, breathable feeling. That's my only drawback to trees at the front. We're never really out front so no concerns for privacy. The footprint closest to the house is actually perfect for what I consider adjusting. I was thinking to follow that exact outline with mulch and a brightly colored flower bed, something to that effect. I would then add a black patio bench with an outdoor cushion and maybe a welcome vertical wall sign. My main concern is to dress the house itself and the porch. I am OK as long as the lawn is lush and green. It could remain plain for the majority of it. What do you think?...See MoreSurge Hibbs
