To plant or not to plant... it's more like WHAT TO PLANT?

Hello all!

I need help with some suggestions on an edible ground cover that will tolerate shade and the clay soil.

We just bought a house in zone 7b, we have a part of the property that is about maybe 30-40 ft from the house and is north facing. The problem is that it's a hill and we have Georgia clay which is causing some erosion due to water run off. The people that lived here before us planted some (to the best of my knowledge) Juniper Blue Rug... maybe. Anyways half of it has died, leaving a large area of unprotected soil.
I thought this wound be the best opportunity to plant some that I liked, and that's also edible!

Thank you,
Shivani.
