What will your flooring and furniture be in this windowed area? How large is the M/R in total. I can't speak to wooden blinds at this point since I don't know what the rest of the room will look like. I lean toward Roman shades, you can lose a little at the top, but with so many windows that wouldn't dampen the impact of the curved wall or the light coming in through the windows. Agree with the shutters, very pricy, it's a certain look (like traditional) and I think it would close in your room. I don't prefer cellular shades unless they are behind some sort of valance, which would probably couldn't do with so many windows on a curve? But they do lend a comtemporary look. I'd say that you have a challenge because whatever you do on twelve windows will lend a far greater impact than if that treatment went on only one or two windows. So again, I'd go with the Roman shade, you can do a lot with fabric and trim. I think the cords would "disappear" from view after you got used to the look, and no one else would see them either.

Not a dumb question at all! I just barely can reach my top downs with no furniture in front of them. In another room I have been debating cordless/corded/tdbu/bu with 6 windows where I DO have furniture in front of one of them. I have been wondering how to deal with it, when I recently had an epiphany. I was visiting my sister after her hip replacement surgery and she had all these interesting implements for various tasks. As soon as I saw her sock puller, I had a vision of a DIY cordless TDBU implement. Here it is. It works great. The L-shape was actually more useful than the cup-hook but it varies depending on direction I was going. My existing cordless tabs have a hole in them. Not all will have this hole, but I think that is ok. The hook can still grab as needed. I could do mine w/o using the hole.

They have great customer service and fixed one that my DH botched when he thought the cordless mechanism was, in actuality, a packing strap. (I have loads more stories about that guy, lol) They even paid the shipping. Stardecorating.com had the best prices and were very easy to deal with. I even had to change a color after the time was up, but they worked to get it done. When you finish your work sheet, you then take another 30% off. We found them much lower than the big box stores. After a major 2nd-story remodel, I'm realizing that hot summers are just too much for the 6' x 6' east-facing window in my open stairway. I live in an area with hot summers and cold winters (northern Utah), so I'm interested in cellular blinds for energy efficiency. The window is high enough over the stairs that manual operation is not a good option, so I'm looking at motorized options, ideally with a timer. If I can find something that works well, I'd like to get similar coverings for two more windows (3' x 4') in adjacent rooms and operate them with the same remote. Also, the walls are insulated with spray-in foam, so ideally I'd use the battery wand rather than having to open up my walls to run hardwiring (unless your advice is overwhelmingly to suck it up and run wiring!). After seeing r2d2indy's post about big windows and then big window coverings, I checked out blindsgalore.com and found many reasonably-priced (read: <$1k apiece, which is less than I've seen so far at custom shops), including Graber, Kellie, Bali, and others. My questions for those of you who have had motorized blinds, especially long-term: Which brands and features do you recommend, and why? Which brands and features should I avoid, and why?
